Staying Safe At A Crowded Range With Stupid People, LAX Range

How do you guys stay safe/defensive at crowded ranges with stupid people using firearms. Or, any range for that matter. LAX range here in Los Angeles will give a gun to anyone who walks in off the street regardless of experience. So essentially, someone who's never fired a gun before in his life can walk in and start firing away with no prior instruction. I don't feel safe at these ranges, especially when it's crowded and the place is filled with gang members who walk in off the street. Can anyone tell me how they deal with this situation. I've been to ranges across the U.S. and always feel, naturally, a bit on the defense when others are around. How do you protect yourself against stupid people at a firing range? Does anyone here were kevlar? Seriously, it's of great concern to be in a room shooting with a bunch of other people I don't know or trust. Can anyone explain how you maintain a "reasonable" comfort zone when going to the range. Thanks!

Wear full body armor. Might get some strange looks but we'll see whose laughing when someone gets shot!

weekdays, especially daytime hours are much less crowded at most indoor ranges. There are a couple of range employees at my usual spot that I have never ever seen on the range itself. I know that one of them will not go out there while the place is open for business.

Don't go to ranges where there are stupid people using firearms.

I'm not being a smarta**. You plainly think it's unsafe, so listen to your good common sense and find another place to shoot. It may be inconvenient but not as inconvenient as getting shot.

Do not go to range in LA or any other area where gangbangers live. That alone will remove about %90 of the idiots. I might also add that if see a pimply faced kid holding a Moisin saying he jusy bought it a Big5..stay away. Wearing camo, stay away. Anytime I see a group 21 y.o's with pistols I prefer to stay away. Fat, loud, balding dad bragging to his wife and kids...stay away.

Was shooting trap out at Prado and I watched a half dozen mo-rons tstart shooting a few rounds of trap, loading as many rounds as could pack in their shotguns, sweeping each other with their barrels. One super idiot was using an 870 with an 18" barrel with the magazine full, after each shot he would place the butt of his gun on his hip with the business end of the gun pointed at his buddy's head. Tried to explain to them that what they were doing was dangerous a couple of times, all I got was blank stares.

allocate "special" time at the range during the week and first thing in the morning on the weekends.

stupid people don't get up early.

otherwise, well, be sure and have the vid camera running for opportunistic shots.

Actually, as long as stupid people are willing to learn that's ok even if fat, loud and 21.

Some of my best friends are people. Even fat, loud, and 21.

                        Well, maybe not.

                          Actually Mr.,

You mixed two distinctively different generalizations I was making. Re-read. My statement clearly says "Anytime I see a group 21 y.o's with pistols I prefer to stay away." then there is a period. Next I stated after the period, new sentence "Fat, loud, balding dad bragging to his wife and kids...stay away.

Lunch time is the best time

Sometimes at 12:00, I am the only person shooting at either Target Masters or even Reed's.

I mentioned it to them and the TM guys said that it get crazy and too busy at night. So, the only night shooting I do is with the MNSL (separate area and well monitored).
