Civil liability coverage for CCW holders

I believe there has been a few threads about this, but I can't find them. I apologize if this is a dupe question.

Does anyone know insurance companies that cover civil liability coverage in the event we have to use our firearms to defend ourselves while carrying and in our homes?

Crazy to even think that a criminal after robbing us or threatening us great bodily injury or death and we act in self defense that we could be cleared criminally, but can be sued by our attacker and/or their families. Even if they don't win the court and attorney costs could destroy us financially.

What I'm looking for is an umbrella type policy for gun owners in the event we have to use deadly force. Also, if you know the kind of coverage and how much it costs it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!!

You have to ask your carrier, and dig deep to get a good answer. Most homeowner policies in California include language that covers a policy owner in case of suit not the result of a criminal conviction of the policy owner.

Obviously this determination can take a lot of time and money. Do not take your agent's word for it. My carrier is the same one that shows up to tow me, and I was satisfied that I will be covered, given the above.

Which is why when some say when the metal leaves the leather you have to shoot, they are full of it. There is plenty of advice given here, and elsewhere, by people who don't have a pot to piss in. I will live out my life not drawing, much less shooting, anyone. But I would rather draw 100 times, and solve the problem, and explain it to the cops, than deal with a corpse.

Thanks for your input. I thought there was a company that specifically sold insurance covering the event of using a firearm in self defense. I guess any insurer could cover, but are there ones with track records that you know of?

I agree with you that in all likelihood those of us who carry will never have to use our firearms to protect ourselves. Actually the question is for a physician who EDC's and wanted to be covered from any civil litigation against him, if it's a lawful self defense shooting.

Anyone know of any good attorneys in the Sacramento or Bay area who deal with personal defense cases, whether it be criminal or civil litigation in the use of firearms in self defense?

Reason being I'm a Financial Advisor and I've always been a firearms advocate. I've helped many of my clients acquire their CCW's and get into guns over the years. Part of my planning process, when we discuss liability I'd like to make sure they're covered in the unlikely event they're sued. Particularly developing strategies for high networth individuals, where $250,000 of coverage won't be enough. Appreciate your help and if you have any recommendations.

        Thanks again

I spoke with him when I received my CCW. Good guy to have his number in your wallet.

I recommend joining USCCA and become a Self-Defense Shield member.
