    HD plan or strategies

Curious what others do for HD around your home.

Do you carry a single weapon on your person while moving from different areas and/or levels of your home or, do you have weapons in various areas throughout the house?

Which did you choose and why did you choose it over the other option?

For our home my safes are in the garage with the majority of our weapons.

I keep a SG up stairs next to my side of the bed unless I am leaving the house empty then it goes in the safe.

I also keep a P220 in my night stand with 3 mags available, when I get up in the morning I typically take it down stairs and move it room to room with me however, since it may not be within reach in the room I am in, I've thought more to carry it on my person for quick access.

    Curious on others situations...

my weapons are laying around the house, loaded, safety off, round in the chamber.

It would be very hard to catch me or my family in a position where a firearm wasn't 2 seconds away.....

.... but first you gotta deal with the dogs...

Unless you come in the front door firing without regard for non-armed persons, and just shoot and ask questions later.

i typically have my 45 holstered on myself, different rifles around the upstairs area and a shotgun or so downstairs.
hhmmm my strategy is simple run and hide. if they come where i am i shall scream like a girl to disorient the intruder then run some more! JK i have other strategies but i dont feel comfortable sharing how i plan to defend my house from intruders on an online forum. I can say they will meet jesus cause they will leave my house holier then they came in.
primer, powder, projecile, press, load, fire repeat!

All weapons on board ready for use. Glock G-19 with G-18 mag loaded with Cor-Bon 115gr rounds in my right hand. Glock G-26 in flak jacket (ballistic nylon replaced with Kevlar taken from old IIA vests) pocket. Spare mags in the other pocket. Metascope in my left hand.

A high capacity handgun like a 9mm is vastly superior in close quarters combat. Federal & CA NFA laws make the best weapons for HD (a short barrel submachine gun or short barrel semi auto or pump shotgun) impractical for most. Long guns are a huge liability in cramped quarters. A long gun is easy to defeat up close by grabbing or deflecting the barrel. With a bit of training a pistol can easily be hip fired accurately.

Most home invaders don't use night vision so an active IR scope like the metascope works much better then a flashlight. Use stealth to check things out. Don't stupidly call out asking "who's there" or alert them with reflected light from a flashlight. Use the element of surprise to your advantage. Alerting your enemy & giving away your position is just begging to get ambushed.

I always have at least one firearm within a few feet from me throughout the day. When I go to bed I usually grab a RAW Bushmaster XM15 from the safe, along with two 30 round mags with 40 grain Hornady TAP ammo. It saved my life once against two thugs with handguns, so I trust the rifle and my ability to use it.

Before anyone freaks about using a evil Black Rifle for HD. I've done my research and I like the fact that it travels at over 3,000 fps and in such a small projectile it tends to brake apart into small fragments compared to even 9mm JHP ammo. I actually prefer it these days vs. using a shotgun with 00 buck because I could keep a loaded mag in my Gun Vault with my pistol. Compared to the shotguns, where I would have to keep shells in the tube or load the damn thing. I have two little boys, so making sure the ammo is separate is important right now.

I also don't believe in clearing my house in the event I hear a bump in the night. My job is to protect my family and that's standing at the top of the staircase as the wife gets the kids and hides them behind bookshelves loaded with books. The angle at which I'd be firing the rounds will impact the ground in the event I miss. Fairly unlikely at that close range.

Vast majority of the time I have my Glock 23 with me because that's my EDC. Sometimes I'll have a 9mm, .357, .45, .40, or a shotgun depending on what I decide to grab for the night. I like the Bushmaster because my wife can handle it very well and she's comfortable with it.

I'm not too worried about night time issues as the house is alarmed, we all sleep up stairs and I'll defend from the high ground. It is during the day light hours when we are spread around the house that concerns me the most.

I too have small ones around the house so keeping the chamber empty is a requirement unless the weapon is on my person but, with the Benelli you need to know how to bring a shell on the feed ramp before it will chamber.

I think I am convinced that on person carry is the best option in my situation.
