Rifle transportation 2013 question

Is there some new law saying rifles/shotguns need to be in a locked case in vehicles, or am i mistaken? Just bought a shotgun and think it comes in fancy cardboard.

nope. you just can't open carry them. keep it in a case or bag, keep it unloaded in the truck of your car & your gtg.

Only RAW's and hand guns need to be locked up. Your good to go. Watch out or FGFSZA , no guns within 1000' of a school. (CCW listed hand guns exempt)

There is the Federal law requiring all guns, regardless of type, be unloaded and locked when transiting a gun-free school zone. Not likely to be an issue, but ....

Please read the law in the 2A and legal forums. you should error on the side of caution for the first year or so..because there will be cases of ill-informed LEO out there.

I had a question on a situation I have. I currently live in the East Bay. I have a few friends in the Stockton/Lodi area who collect firearms and go to the ranges pretty often. I finally got a rifle of my own. Conveniently, I already go to Stockton for 1 or 2 weekends per a month, to hang out with my friends and GF. My GF lives on a college campus.

I want to bring my rifle and go to the ranges with my friends, but that would only be a few hours out of the whole weekend. The remaining time would most likely be spent at the campus. Would I be allowed to leave it in the trunk of my car, in a gym bag, unloaded, with a lock around the bolt, if it is parked at the school parking lot? or is that still against the law?

I live in school zone and all my long guns get locked in a case before even being carried to the truck in my own driveway. Sucks but I'll err on the side of caution and of course you travel through school zones all the time and don't even know it. Might as well not give them the chance rare as it could be. It's federal law, so I doubt a cop would give a damn but who knows.

I would assume that would go against the campus regulations. Most campuses prohibit firearms of any kind on campus. My college has a sport shooting club and we have to park off campus when we have guns in the car and need to be at the campus.

Ditch the gun lock - it has no legal meaning.

(i) Notwithstanding Section 12026, any person who brings or
possesses a firearm upon the grounds of a campus of, or
buildings owned or operated for student housing, teaching,
research, or administration by, a public or private university
or college, that are contiguous or are clearly marked
university property, unless it is with the written permission
of the university or college president, his or her designee, or
equivalent university or college authority, shall be punished
by imprisonment in the state prison for one, two, or three
years.

It's all about the case of some kind that locks.
Cloth cases that the zipper locks should be fine.
You don't have to spend a lot of money.
I bought some cheapy plastic cases from Walmart online, though
they take four locks to be properly secure. People make a
little fun of me but whatever.

Trigger locks or anything else like that does not satisfy
the law.

Actually reading a few posts here that there could be some LEOs that dont quite get that a loaded mag is not a loaded gun. I personally will no longer travel with mags loaded as I would rather not have a bad day over it.

the gun shop that I bought my gun at said they had to sell me a bolt lock before they handed the fire arm over to me. did i get duped??

also, so basically no matter what, fire arms are not allowed around campuses no matter how locked up it is?

Guy above just said nothing makes a difference, no fire arms allowed near campuses.

and i dont want to get a rifle case. I dont want anythign that screams "hey theres a rifle in here" I just wanted to stash it in my trunk, hit the range, then hang out with my friends at school. sigh.
