    Looking for a Hi-Tech range

I'm a 17 year Army veteran and looking for a nice facility to shoot. I've been to almost all the facilities in the Central California/Northern California area and they are all about the same. You either have to pay by the hour, pay by the day or it's a private club and membership is required. I'm ok with paying a yearly membership fee but the "ranges" are little more than open land with some berms and static targets. Is there something more high end with dynamic targets, more versatility? I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this problem and what people would pay to have access to a high end gun range.

    Welcome to CalGuns.
    Thank you for your service.
Where are you? That would get more members involved in your discussion.

It's difficult to find ranges that offer dynamic targets for rifle.
Most ranges only have 100 yard max. capability.
They seem to cater mostly to handgun and skeet/trap/ sporting clays.
I used to have access to Beale AFB military range, shooting out to 900 meters.
Beale AFB has a rifle / gun club, but the range is limited to 100 yards.
If you are in the Sacramento area, the Sac Valley Shooting Range (in Folsom) has longer rifle targets, but with so many rules it is difficult to relax and just shoot.
My experience with Ranges north of Sacramento is that if they make them too large, or with dynamic capabilities, it requires more personnel to operate them, raising prices that most shooters wont pay.
PLUS Kalifornistan and their EPA rules are so restrictive on lead, cleanup, groundwater testing, endangered shrimp hiking around the shooting lanes, etc.
We have to 3 Sportsmens Club's where I live. One has a rifle range of 100 yards & a walking archery range (*Which is awesome!).
The other Club is mostly for drinking and don't have a range. Mostly geared toward fishing.
I am a member of the third Club which does not have a range, but does have a lodge on a high Sierra Lake and it is geared more toward fishing. Our Lake is in the middle of the Tahoe National Forest so we have plenty of hunting opportunities. However it is seasonal due to lots of snow.
I personally would pay $400 a year and give work hours to a range locally that has dynamic and static rifle courses. But I want to shoot any day of the week, with any legal firearm, and even some nights.

Too bad you're not in Southern California; American Shooting Center, Discount Gun Mart are both indoor ranges that I've enjoyed, and there are P2K and South Bay Rod & Gun Club that are both great outdoor ranges. The memberships/range fees are different per range so just look them up if you're ever in the area. My experience with with them has always been positive ones, although be prepared to wait up to an hour or even two on busy weekends...

I don't always save the world, but when I do, it's in 24 hours or less...

Take a look at " the gun range" in north highlands / sacto area. They have solid reviews here on CGN and Yelp. We made the drive from the bay area just to enjoy this place, pay once for a full day if you have enough ammo, hi power rifles are welcome too.
