What's up with loose ammo?

OK, I know sometimes ya buy bulk & it's bagged in a box. Cool. If the packaging makes for cheaper ammo, all for that.

But saw a YouTube video with Mr. Tacticool breaking open 20 round boxes & dumping 'em loose into a .50 cal ammo can.

What am I missing? Is there a reason for this? Keeping inventory is a PITA to begin with. Trying to deal with loose rounds & whatnot just seems like making the problem worse?

Easier to store cause it takes up less space. Keeping inventory isnt hard. Keep a slip wih current ammo count in that can and subtract what you shoot from that amount. Done. I dont have the space to keep everyhing in the box. It would be nice but its not practical for my situation and probably his as well?

I used to do that with all my ak ammo. It felt bad a** having 3 ammo cans full of shiny brass staring back at me when going on big shoot or taking family to the desert to shoot. Only problem is people don't realize how much they've shot when reaching into loose ammo to reload mags. Boxes act as a gauge of how much your going through and how fast. Lol

Anyone remember Scrooge McDuck diving into all his gold coins? I'd do that with ammo if possible haha

All my .223 is on stripper clips. I dump my 12ga into 50 cal ammo cans though.

I do this with my semi-auto, especially 7.62, for my ammo cans. It is simply more space efficient doing this than keeping them in the spaced out spacers and boxes. For bolt gun ammo where I am being real picky about anything pushing or whatever on my rounds, they stay in carriers.

I like to leave them in boxes just because when out shooting it helps to slow you down a bit, and save some money lol. Often it ends up everyone is shooting my guns and my ammo, so... Nothing wrong with everyone stopping for a bit to open boxes and load mags.

No boxes also means less trash at the shoot site. I typically don't keep a running count of how many round I've fired, and really wouldn't care if I had to take down zombies. I'll let their carcasses be my round count.

I keep about 1k factory stuff in their boxes in one ammo can, the rest and my reloads go in loose cans(separate)

I keep ammo in the boxes or ammo can they originally came in. Just bringing what I think I may need to the range and haul my trash back home. Simple.

Ammo cans are rugged and water proof. I had a leak in a pipe and a terrible mess when a case of ammo got damp, not even soaking wet. I sometimes put boxes in ammo cans, but I am a fan of the can.

If I shoot with friends, I give them a handful of ammo. LOL

It's not difficult to count how much you're putting into a can.

It's less garbage to deal with at the range(and have to take back if you're going out to BLM or whatever). Plus if you empty the can, you can just toss brass in it if you're taking it home.

It's less packaging material to store at home.

You get more ammo in the sealed ammo can(you know they have rubber seals, right?) to keep moisture, dirt, etc. out.

It's easier to pick up one ammo can than it is a bunch of individual boxes(seeing as how they have a convenient handle).

There's probably a few other sensible reasons to do it. Also, if calguns were any gauge of how much people shoot at the range it might be possible to get the idea that no one shoots more than 100 rounds a month. Some people's idea of a range day is 1k.

I have about 1k of 223 loose in one metal ammo can and another 1k in the zombie cans.

When I was deployed in Iraq in 2003, I had a couple of loose ammo in ammo cans bouncing around in the back of my hmmvv. although they were some what banged up, they all went bang. For me, it's just easier to load with then using a striper clip.

I like keeping my ammo in box's so I can keep track of how much I shoot and if I leave them loose in a ammo can I most likely will go over the set amount I planed to shoot that day All my bulk reloads I keep in a ammo can and all new stuff keep in there Box's
