    locking of guns at home.

I have a question. I have a gun safe at home and all my rifles in there. None of them are locked. My ak and m1 carbine have the clip ready in them with bullets in mag but they are not cocked with bullet in chamber. I just need it this way in case sh&# goes down so all I need to do is cock. If an officer decided to come check out my weapons in the safe and they see it this way could I get busted? Or since they are already in safe that im exempt from putting trigger lock on rifles. Or do I have to put a lock on tgem regardless?

Keep it on your coffee table loaded. If someone comes in do can do a couple of rolls on the floor and smoke them. Its your house do whatever. The law now is there for kids not gaining access and taking them to school. IBitsnotaclipitsamag crowd.

Am I required by law to store my firearms where children cannot access them?
Yes. In most cases, if you keep any loaded firearm within any premise which is under your custody or control and know or reasonably should know that a child (person under 18 years of age) is likely to gain access to the firearm, you may be guilty of a felony if a child gains access to that firearm and thereby causes death or injury to any person unless the firearm was in a secure locked container or locked with a locking device that rendered it inoperable.

        (PC Section 12035-12036)
Public Where do I find laws regarding the possession of firearms? I'm not sure whether I have a California record that would prevent me from owning/possessing a firearm. Is there a way to find out before I attempt to purchase one? What is the process for purchasing a firearm in California? How can I obtain a Carry Concealed Weapon (CCW) license? Can I give a firearm to my adult child? Can he/she give it back to me later? Can I give a firearm to my spouse or registered domestic partner? Can he/she give it back to me later?

Well, since you have bullets in your clips, you're good to go "low ready", especially if someone comes up your driveway.

There is no law against storing your rifles, pistols or shotguns loaded locked in your safe.

Why worry about so many guns with their "clips" in them, ready to go? If S does HTF you're not going to pick up all of your guns and shoot them all at once-you're going to grab one and either live or die by it in a matter of SECONDS. On that note, keep one in condition 3 with you at all times. When you leave your house, secure that weapon with the others. That's what I do...

Keep all long guns condition 3, chamber empty.

Long guns may go off if dropped.

No need to keep anything locked further if it's in a safe.

OP, also read the 4th Amendment against unlawful search and seizure. It'll give you an idea of your rights and when a police officer or other agent of the government can search your property. It requires probable cause and/or a warrant, unless you give them specific permission.

No offense to the 'OP or anyone else with similar concerns, but I've never understood the wariness when it comes to police. I mean, if you haven't done anything wrong and aren't breaking any laws, what are you afraid of?

Personally, I'm not afraid of the police and have the utmost respect for their profession. I worked at the US Marshals and the CA DOJ back in college, even was offered a job after graduating college as a deputy. It's good to understand not only the laws we have to abide by, but the laws that our LEO's have sworn to uphold. Most LEO's are good people, but there are the few that are the bad apples of the bunch. Should we come across a LEO who is impeding our Constitutional rights and violating the laws they swore to uphold, they need to be held accountable as much as we do.
