    Open Carry luncheon in Livermore..

Anyone interested? A good majority of downtown is within limits (outside of school zones). I still have to check on city ordinances, but that shouldn't be a problem.. So... who's in?

Page 38 of the HSCG "Loaded Firearms in Public"

Last time I checked Alameda County had a population of 200k+. (is that relevant anymore?)

Does City Law over ride county law?

I'd love to attend, but I'd be nervous about those that are not used to open holsters, especially sitting. Anyway, I'm subscribed, if there is anything I can do, please let me know.

No, we wouldn't drink, but they have some pretty damn good food and outdoor seating.

The food at First Street is, well edible. It's not that good. It used to be a long time ago, then they changed owners...

The beer and the prices though can't be beat!

More importantly, what's this about open carry in my home town of Livermore???!!!???

Yea, please post how it all goes. I'll also be looking for a write up on this event in the weekly paper.

If you're going to do this, BE SURE to get permission from the store host first. Otherwise you could be asked to leave and the whole get-together plan will evaporate.

Every detail needs to be examined and mitigated so that the whole experience is low key. You do not want a LEO contact your first time out if you can avoid it.

I disagree with asking permission. It gives them an opportunity to pre-empt your lawful activities. And being asked to leave is actually can be a useful tool- if they actually ask you to leave at all- you can then ask which of their competitors you should forevermore spend your money with. No guns? No patronage- ever. Being asked to leave isnt very likely though, as many assume that if you are carrying, you know what you're doing and have 'authorization' to do so.

You should plan for contingencies in the off-chance you are asked to leave. Make a selection of two or three locations in the vicinity you can agree on.

Police contact isnt a certainty, but you should know your rights and practice your dialogue before you go out on your excursion. I know of three incidents of police contact in California regarding open carry- one as recently as last week with Alameda County Sheriffs Deputies that have all resulted in a breif interview during detainment and the open carrier allowed to go about their business.

I will be very interested in reading the debreifing after the luncheon... maybe post on opencarry.org?

Uhm I believe it was an endorsement of the food and beverages at the location...not a commitment to come packing and get loaded.. er wasted... uhm, you know what I mean.

In any case, there is no law I'm aware of that would prohibit one from having an adult beverage while lawfully armed. The only restrictions I can think of would be imposed by those issued by a license to carry concealed. I believe its possible to do both things in moderation without the emplementation of a law governing individual behavior- but I agree- probably not winning hearts and minds with the appearance of irresponsibility. In this case, these participants are acting as ambasadors of the gun community and their actions speak for us.
