Please answer specific questions regarding what is required to purchase a firearm...

I know an HSC is required. My old one from many years ago is no longer good.

I know driver's license is required, and vehicle registration or a utility bill.

    Questions:

    1) My driver's license's address is my PO Box. I do this to protect privacy.
    2) My vehicle registration lists both my PO Box AND street address.
    3) I can certainly produce a utility bill with street address.

Is this good enough? I ask because I'm getting inconsistent answers.

I really rather not have to change the address on my DL.

    I'd appreciate any insight.

My DL also has just a PO box on it. I usually take my vehicle registration with street address. Last time I bought a gun at Reeds and they didn't even require it. I handed him my DL and he told me I needed a physical address, I told him I'd go get the registration and he said "why, you don't know where you live?" But so long as you have the registration or utility bill you should be alright.

You need a new HSC in order to buy a handgun.

Your CA DL is used to show clear evidence of identity and age.

Your utility bill/car registration is used to show proof of California residency.

Your vehicle registration and utility bill show the same address, right? That is sufficient ID to buy a handgun. Just make sure your street address is used on the actual DROS form printout. A PO box may...MAY...cause an issue when it's submitted to DOJ. Just check it when you sign it. Otherwise, once you get your new HSC, you are ready to buy.

The main reason for this, is by DOJ's actual rules, you cant physically live in a PO Box. A drivers license is supposed to list your actual address. Ive seen it where its flew thru and no flags and then Ive seen it get flagged as well.
You best bet is to bring your I.D., write your physical address down on the dros, use a vehicle registration with your physical address on it as verification of proof of residency and address correction. Plus of course you will need a valid HSC.

Why even produce the vehicle registration? If your utility bill is in your name and address, you're good to go. Less documents you provide that show a PO box, less chance of a problem.

Simple and to the point. Also, if you need a study guide for the HSC test... refer to my sig

For me it's usually because I forgot the stupid bill on the counter at home and all I got with me is the vehicle registration in the car.

Because, by the book, it has to be a document from any city, state, or federal agency. And for the most part, utility bills are actually private companies. Most people drive to their local gun shop, so dmv doc's are easily available.

Thanks for your responses. Sounds I like I will be okay with either the vehicle registration with a physical address and/or utility bill.

Yea, I use my DMV registration. Make sure you do not put the address on your DL(P.O. Box) down on paper and your good to go.
