    DOJ Dealer Level 3?

Does the California DOJ have different classes of firearms dealers.

Asked one of my local guns shops about bringing in an OLL and they said they could not because the weren't a level 3 dealer.

I have never heard of this before.

Same dealer also said I would have to have a letter from the local head LEO to purchase an OLL.

Is this company full of it or what.

Are you sure you didn't mean a Class 3 dealer?

Just got of the phone with the DOJ Firearms Division. When I told them about this, the basically said it sounds like a dealer who doesn't want to deal with the OLL situation and doesn't know the laws pertaining to them.

So rather than admit they didn't want to deal with OLL's and didn't know the laws about them, the would rather lie and lose a customer.

Nope, The Shooting Gallery. Guns Fishing and Other Stuff doesn't know the laws regarding Off List Lowers and have stated as much. But the do sell the CA Legal Bushmaster Carbon 15 and will bring in the Fab-10 lower.

and this suprised you because ???? far less than 1/3 of all gun stores deal with oll's , like all the turners and big 5's , you need to seek out the brave ones , they usually don't advertise

So who are the brave ones near Vacaville? Anything closer than Pleasant Hill?

Not to take away from the OP, but about 3 months ago I purchased the LaRue 7in handguards and the Gunsmith at "American Shooting Center" in SD said he could not install them because he was not license to work on AW's. I told him that I would only bring in the upper and he still said no They permanently lost a customer that day.

Interesting, what did the DOJ say re: OLL? Who did you speak with?

Like an idiot, I didn't get the name of the girl I spoke with. She was from the Firearms Licensing branch. She said, as long as it is a striped OLL receiver, it is to be treated as would any non-listed rifle or shotgun. She said that because it is a striped OLL receiver, it does not met the definition of an assault weapon until it is built as such.

The only thing is she made sure to make it very clear that this applies only to non-listed receivers. She must have said that a dozen times.
