GSG-5 Input

I was wondering if all you members that do own or have owned a GSG5 could give me a little feedback.

Quality, functionality, accuracy, feel, and trigger.

Fun gun but not my first choice for a primary .22 rifle. Quality is fair, functions fine, accuracy is what I'd expect from a .22lr MP5 with iron sites, feels fine to me (The only thing I can compare it to is FBI issued MP5s that I've shot in the past.) and the trigger is not a 0.1 oz BR trigger but, it works just fine for it's intended use.

It is a fun cheap gun to shoot. Would be a lot nicer if it had regular 30 round magazines. The 10 rounders get a little boring with a .22lr. The quality feels ok. It is a cheap firearm. The only real complaint that I have about the gsg5 is that it is a pain the a** to take apart to clean.

fun.. easy to kill time for cheap. my marlin 795 shoots more accurate. but i got this gsg5 as a plinking fun thing only.

field strip is a pita. there are some things you can do to make life a little easier like better bolts that are a little harder. i bought some stuff from someone on the arf gsg subforum.

true no speed loader. but they have something for you to pull down on the follower like my browning buckmark magazines. i can tell you it's a major pita to load a marlin 795 since you'd load it it like pistol magazine. at least the gsg5 has something you can pull down to make like easier. so unsure why you say it's hard. one secret is not to pull it all the way down since the rounds don't tend to lie but rather sit up sometimes.

also OP, you can get some parts from hkparts.net to replace some screws. i might get some push pins instead of using the screw stuff for like the stock.

They are perfectly legal to own and use. Like any other +10 round mag, you just can't sell, import. manufacture or offer them for sale.

GSG-5 is junk, it's on par quality wise with an airsoft rifle. It's a kick in the nuts to clean properly, you constantly are tightening things that come loose, good luck with an optic - the top rail wobbles and you'll never keep a zero.

Buy a Ruger 10/22 and don't look back.

I 2nd buying a 10/22. It's quality well built firearm, even if you buy a new 1 with the plastic trigger housing.

But if you must have a tacticool 22, I'd say go with an S&W 15/22 or Sig 522.

I sold my gsg5, I own a 15/22 and have shot my friends 522. So I've handled all 3 of them.

But I'd never trade my 10/22 for any of them

I own 3 10-22s along with many other .22lr rifles. I like the GSG for what it is. In fact, I'd get rid of one of my dedicated .22lr ARs before I'd part with my GSG.

I own a 1st gen GSG-5.
It's good for what it is, a plinker.
It feels like my old Tokyo Marui MP5 airsoft. It also uses some of the same parts.

I handled & shot the H&K/Umarex MP-5 .22LR and have to say that it is the better .22LR MP5 style rifle.

So, if you want a MP5 style .22LR plinker, get the H&K/Umarex over the GSG.

However, if you want accuracy & reliability, then get a Ruger 10/22 or Marlin Model 60.

the funny thing one time i let someone try it who does airsoft.. he said his airsoft kicks harder than my gsg5 (2nd gen)

I've only shot one, and it jammed 2 to 3 times every magazine, I'm sure with a little tweaking it would work ok.
