    Swapping bolts

So I had an extra bolt assembly and I bought a new upper, can I just drop the bolt in the upper or does it have to be headspaced and all that?

Want to know if its safe to just drop it in because it's going to be for my girlfriend and I don't want it blowing up in her face or anything.

I am assuming that your are talking about an OLL AR right? If that is the case, then yes.. It is o.k to just swap the bolt without doing anything else..

I'd like to add the caveat that this is assuming it is a relatively new bolt and barrel. If either one is "well-used" I would take the extra precaution of gauging the headspace just to be on the safe side. By well-used I am talking a few thousand rounds through it.

Yeah it was for an AR, but both are brand new so it seems good to go.

Thanks for the quick answers guys.

Get the headspace checked any time you insert a new bolt, regardless if it is a new rifle or not.

The traitor is the plague."......Cicero

I agree with everyone. Just check the headspace. Most likely there will be no
problems, but all it takes is that one time for something to happen.
