the biggest problem with gun related issues are dumb *** parents

how can you won guns and not have them locked up along with the ammo. sandy hook would not have happened if those guns and ammo were locked away. the kid tried buying guns but couldnt, so where else would he get them? if they were locked away, he wouldnt.

apparently yest another kid was shot after an argument with a friend. the shotgun shell was in a kitchen drawer and he just grabbed it and put it into the shotgun he grabbed from inside. i mean people cant be this stupid can they?

obama and all these libs should stop blaming guns and start blaming parents for their incredible negligence.

I have to disagree. I was raised in a home with no safe or locked firearms. My dad always had a loaded shotgun in the house. We(myself and 2 brothers) never would consider touching the firearms without our parents permission and supervision. As a matter of fact we would never go into their bedroom without permission and that was were the firearms were. Later I got my own shotgun then 22RF then BG rifles and could use them as I wanted as long as I was safe. We lived on a ranch then.
It is HOW the children are raised and with what values. This is the parents responsiblity but is torpedoed by "good doers" and gov today. All the PC cr*p today does little to help. Personal responsiblity and such is not common now.
I raised my daughter to have the type of "old fashion" values that I have. She started shooting when she was 4.5years old and has been doing so ever since. She is 21 now and just purchased her first pistol in her name. I bought her 2 when she was yonger as well as several rifles. He hunts and is going to Africa with me next year.
I do lock up most of my firearms now (3 large safes) but not ammo. If someone wants to kill so bad they will find a way. Also that kid was about to be commited and was on a "drug therpy" at the time. If you research things you will find that a large number of the people who have do this type of thing were also on a program such as his. That is part of the PC and let someone else(thing) do my job as a parent in raising my child attitude. The easy way out for too busy parents and sometimes dictated by the state to do so.
Also If a person in the school had a permit to carry they could have ended it quickly but your gov will not permit it. We have school gun-free zones. All this does is make sure some nut has a free pass to do more harm.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

Sandy Hook would not have happened if that psycho had been locked away.

education and respect for the guns is prob the biggest thing here. but most people arent smart enough to educate their children like your parents did. in these cases especially, they should be locked away. but even with educated children, they still should be locked away. you just never know.

The guns were not locked up in our home when I was a kid, but nobody in the house had mental problems.

Yesterday, I was talking with an old friend. He suggested "we do something" aka more gun control. I asked him how he stores his Glock and 12 ga, knowing they just sit unlocked in the closet. He didn't understand.

What else do you lock up?
            knives, tools, car keys, matches...

You teach your kids not to play with matches of fire, do you also shut off the gas valve outside the house every time you leave the house?

Just because you never know if the educated child might want to play with fire, and despite the matches and aim-n-flame being locked up, there is the pilot light on the stove which remains accessible.

lets just go one more step and say the people that own them shouldn't have them "because you never know"

As others have said, this is about teaching your kids and being a real parent. I had access to firearms when i was younger and i never killed anyone. I can remember when i was about eight years old and i found my mothers 225lr pistol, i even knew then to leave it the **** alone as i was taught about firearms at a before.

When kids are trained, they do the right thing:

Boys find loaded gun in theater, notify authorities.

It was a gun, a small-caliber, semi-automatic pistol. It was fully loaded with a round in the chamber, Tillamook Police Chief Terry Wright said.

Levi and Kolton didn’t touch the weapon. They alerted a school staffer who was on the field trip, who then alerted police.

Why didn’t the boys pick up the firearm?

"I'm a Boy Scout and Kolton and me took a hunter safety class. One of the rules is that you treat all guns as if they're loaded," Levi told KPTV.

I grew up with guns and was taught early on the importance of life, how to respect firearms, and re-enforced with proper safety. However, I do believe in locking up our guns and not leaving them in closets, drawers, etc. unattended. Our kids might be responsible, but we live in a world (CA) where many kids haven't been exposed or taught the proper handling of firearms. Furthermore, criminals acquire their firearms often times in burglaries, which could eventually be used in crimes.

Locking up our guns in my opinion is a responsible thing to do. Every morning I put on my handgun that I carry, than put my XM15 in my safe. When I get home and after I put the kids to bed I go in the safe to retrieve the rifle. My kids see the rifle all of the time and they know not to play with it. I usually keep the mag in my pocket as well just in case. My kids are 3 and 5 and I'm just starting to teach them proper safety and respect. Later on depending on their maturity level I may give them a gun for their rooms, when they are much older. I will buy a gun safe for them as my Dad did for their bedrooms.

The same could be applied to education, the biggest problem with education and our youth are the dumb*** parents.

"If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks & corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their Fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs."

Want to note that the coward in Newtown was not a kid and there is no reason why he wouldn't have access to his mothers guns, well, unless they hated each other. Even if they were locked up, he could have had keys or the combination.

Yes, people can be that stupid, it happens all the time. Then we have teh nanny state that keeps passing absurd laws which somehow just don't stop anything... imagine that. Drunk drivers still drive drunk don't they.....

People are solely responsible for their actions, they must bare the consequences. Parents of course are responsible, but when you are over 18, you are an adult.

I agree with you to a certain extent. Nothing annoys me more than seeing dumb asses buy gun after gun and not buy a gun safe, it's FREE America but it makes sense to buy a safe once you have enough guns that you just can't hide in several places throughout your home. It is our responsibility as gun owners to keep our firearms away from criminals and those who can potentially use them improperly.
