Things to remember when talking to people after a massacre

1. The first and last thing that comes out of our mouths, needs to be how saddened/devestated/angry we are that this happened, and that we would do anything to keep it from happening again.
2. "Assault Weapons" are not the same as "Assault Rifles". "Assault Weapons" fire one shot per pull of the trigger, and are in no way automatic weapons. "Assault Weapons" are defined by cosmetic features only like adjustable stocks. This seems obvious, but uninformed people do not know this.
3. It sickens us as gun owners to know that people want to make kids more vulnerable to deranged psychos, by disarming anyone, who would do anything they could, to protect these kids. Protection from a shooter is a major reason that we are offended by gun bans, but also protection from violent hate groups, desperate drug addicts, and physically imposing criminals. Taking away the only effective means of self defense that the average person has to defend themselves, means that they must defend themselves against an opponent, by themselves, for 10-25 minutes until Police get there. Most of these massacres are over once the cops get there, but by then the damage has already been done.
4. The most common place for these massacres to occur, is "Gun Free Safety Zones"
5. You never hear about a civilian ending a massacre with a firearm, because they end it before it becomes a massacre
6. The people that commit these crimes have severe mental illness. Any thought process, that causes you to systematically execute defenseless people, automatically qualifies you as insane. Gun bans will never stop, or limit the violent actions of an insane person. Whether it is by bombs, vehicles, or other terrorist acts, they will always find away. The best we can do to prevent this, is equip the general populace to defend themselves, and take mental health issues more seriously as a nation

No quotes that I'm aware of. Was just reading a bunch of threads last night, and I felt like we as gun owners tend to paint ourselves as people who don't want to lose our toys. Sure gun laws do take away objects that we enjoy using, but that is not their ultimate purpose. I feel like instead of being defensive about people trying to take our stuff, if we started acting offended that people would disarm defenseless citizens, we might change the conversation a bit. Liberals are screaming "Won't someone think of the children?!", and our response needs to be "We are, you are the ones tying our hands before asking us to protect them".

I always have to wonder why these gun grabbers attack gun owners, while simultaneously leaning on police (gun owners) to protect them.

Its backwards logic, and I agree with your statement about being them disarming us. My prepackaged statement to people has been this, "Do you sir/maam think its ok to wear a car related shirt the day after a violent accident? Of course you do. I own several of these rifles because they are some of the best self defense rifles. I do not believe that the government will come save me, and I will be damned if I become a victim in some natural disaster or riot situation."

I will then pick something out of their life, such as them being gay and say.

"when the government comes after you and your partner, because gays have become the new problem in society. You are going to be so ****ing lucky I have assault weapons. And I will stand by your side defending your freedoms".

It seems to be working, that or I am going to be thrown in jail soon. LOL
