    Open Carry with LEO friend

I have a friend who just became LAPD a few months ago. We are pretty close so I might convince him to come with me and back me up while I open carry in a busy public place when I (I'm pretty sure it will happen!) get arrested.

This sounds like a good idea to me since he is LEO anyways and may help alleviate any tense situation with on duty police. Anything I should know other than exposed and unloaded? Is loaded mag in pocket legal or illegal? Should I try it out first with no ammo on my person?

Any suggestions or support would be helpful.

Must be a good friend if he's willing to jeopardize his career for you.

You cannot get arrested if you do not commit a crime. However be aware that many public places have a no firearms rule for the premise so you could just be arrested for trespass.

How could his career be jeopardized if open carrying is perfectly legal?

Any suggestions as to what locations I can look into?

As for the arrested part, I'm sure I'll be detained while they try to charge me with something...

Don't do it, unless you have time & money to waste.

I'm not brave enough to do that by myself. Maybe if we set up a Calguns thing where a bunch of people open carried to a Brady meeting that would be awesome.

Please do not put your friend in this position. If you have the sack to open carry in L.A., by all means go for it. While his actual employment won't likely be in jeopardy, he could get a reputation as a trouble make in the department.

As others have said, if you aren't breaking the law, why would you be arrested?

...are you sure you live in the same country/state as I do? In the one I live people are harassed and arrested for not showing a !@$%ing receipt when they leave places like Best Buy, they were doing nothing illegal or wrong either.

Let me know when you are going to do this and I will get your false imprisonment on video for your future lawsuit.

Hopefully your friend is smart and not going to do this. I have a hard time believing he would jeopardize any present and future career in LE just to help you make a statement, especially if he's new (and most likely still on probation).

Do you want me to buy your other guns for $1 before you do this so that when the judge over reacts and orders you to turn them all in or sell them you can say truthfully that you don't have any?

Having a unloaded firearm exposed is not illegal.

You can not have ammo on your person.

But your LEO buddy is a fool to think him being with you make it legal. His ***** is in a sling with his CO if he tries letting you carry with ammo.
