I guess i'm resigned to Walmart for my ammo...

I've checked so many online sights for ammo in .9mm and .45ACP and none come close to Walmart. When ya add shipping, it's the same or more than driving 10 minutes and having it in hand immediately. I called several places and asked about bulk purchases ( several thousand rounds of each ) and it didn't matter much on price, compared to only 500 rd cans. And that was the reload prices, not the NIB ammo prices.
I'm not ready to try reloading, but i have been reading up on the subject and it sounds like a good direction to go, but i just don't think that it's right for me right now. I just can't believe that buying several (3000) thousand rds of each is not much cheaper than 100 or 500.

    Sigh......

yeah, closest Big 5 will get to Walmart for Winchester White Box prices is $15, which is a good $3-4 more than Walmart. For a while, we had Speer Lawman for $6, which made 100rds $12 ($10.80 for me with 10% discount)...should've stocked up while we had it haha

When you factor in your time and equipment costs you won't save meaningful money reloading (don't kid yourself that you won't want all the reloading toys too). The reason to get into reloading is because it's fun. Also, if you want to invest the time you can come up with the most accurate load for your gun. This can be a big deal if you get into competition, especially long-range rifle stuff.

It's not cheaper than Winchester White Box at Walmart, but it's close and I find that it's MUCH cleaner. I just got a 1000rnd case of .40SW delivered for $188.95. That's total cost to my door. I also just found it for $185 shipped. Fiocchi centerfire is hard to find, but a few places carry it. My limited experiences with .40SW
          - Winchester White Box, two failures to fire in a single 100rnd box. Gun was really DIRTY after 100rnds.

          - Federal American Eagle, I bought this because my Fiocchi hadn't arrived yet and that's what my range had on hand. No problems in about 200 rounds.

          - Fiocchi, only fired 50-100 rounds of this, but compared to similar quantities of the other two, the gun was much cleaner. It was the 170ga FMJ, it's definitely got more of a pop than the other too.

A friend recommended the Fiocchi, several thread online say its good stuff and it's cheaper than other quality rounds.

Reloading is cheaper if you reload a decent amount (and use a progressive press for churning out lots of rounds for target practice rounds). The place you save ALOT of money is reloading match loads for your bolt guns (b/c gold medal match rounds don't come cheap), and rounds for things like my 454 Casull revolvers, 44 mags, and 357 mag. Reloading is cheaper, and if you are good at it (fast at it) it doesn't take that much time...but you are right, it is fun to a degree.
300 Win Mag, 454 Casull and 500 Magnum are expensive to buy commercially and you can reload MUCh cheaper if you save your brass.

I called a few ca dealers who all said they do not stock it anymore. Did ya order it from the factory? Thanks.

I'm heading over to Walmart tomorrow after work and gonna see if they'll discount it for several thousand rds. Doubt they will, but it's worth a try.

There is a show in Vallejo next weekend (April 1-2), so i'm gonna give a Kalif gun show one more chance and see if i can get some reloads there at a decent price.

I remember when I had the bright idea of asking for a discount at walmart for bulk purchases of ammo. It took me over 20 phone calls to get in contact with the manager of the sporting goods department. He told me to call him back so he could ask the manager of the store. After another 15+ phone calls, I was able to reach him again at which he asked for my number so he could call me back (yeah right). I just told him I would call him back later on in the week. After talking to the person behind the counter (not the manager) he stated that he heard it was possible to do this since he's seen people receive discounts for 5000 rds of ammo, but after another 50+ minutes on the phone trying to get in contact with the manager, he finally told me no. BTW, the 50+ minutes on the phone was trying to get in contact with ANYONE in sporting goods. The calls went from front desk to sporting goods (unanswered) back to front desk to sporting goods (unanswered), continuously for 50+ minutes (I spoke to the front desk person about 10-15 times. I lost count). I order my ammo online now.

I've been in Walmart and had to go get a guy out of the warehouse near the sporting goods section to call someone to man the sporting goods register. No luck as nobody showed up after repeated calls over the store intercom. There was no employee withing 15 or so aisles to be found. This was a weekday a.m. Finally saw a manager walking by and in no uncertain terms, "TOLD" him to ring me up as i had been waiting for over 15 minutes and hadn't seen anybody but a cleaning lady come by. The price we pay for cheap ammo i guess.

I hear you, I waited at the sporting goods register for 15+ minutes with no one in sight. Finally I got on the phone next to the register and told whatever extension I dialed that "Customer needs assistance in sporting goods." She said "Ok no problem . . . who am I speaking with?" I said "the customer who needs assistance." She paged someone on the intercom and I was being helped within 30 seconds.
