    Ammo Cabinet

    Hi all

I need to get a good lockable ammo cabinet for my garage - what do you guys think of this one? http://www.globalindustrial.com/p/st...elves-60x24x78

I want something that can take the weight, is lockable, and can be bolted to the floor.

    All advice is welcome

Looks nice. Have you considered using an old freezer with a locking door? -just an off the wall thought.

I bought a new, bigger fire safe and use the old one (not fire rated) for ammo storage.

Why not watch Craigslist and BackPage to see if you can find something workable a lot cheaper than $799?

Put the savings into more ammo.

I recently ran out of room in my safe to store ammo and had to move it to the garage. I now keep all my ammo cans in a low profile truck tool box and back my truck in right over it. It's lockable and can be bolted to the floor while not taking up a lot of extra space since it fits under my truck.

I am searching for a used construction "job box". Missed a few at about $100. I want one 2 ft x 2 ft x 4 ft. Then for fire protection I will wrap it in fire retardant drywall maybe inside and out and bolt it down or to the wall. I have seen how well these boxes hold up to pry bars and even seen one that was pushed off a 3rd floor slab without opening. The job boxes come in many sizes. Hope this gives you a better way.

            To much for a locker
Might as well buy a safe at Costco

You can also get the smaller stack on gun safes that are in the 2-300 range. Alot cheaper and will do the job very well. Stack on is the brand I am referring to I think Big 5 sells them? Also like someone mentioned truck tool boxes well. My plan is to retire my small cheapy safe and use it for ammo and pick up the big cannon safe or something like it For the guns.

Lol, yeah for 'ammo and such I would buy the cheaper gun cabinets, like the offerings from Stack-On, Sentry, etc. I would never put my guns or anything truly valuable in any of those brands, but ammo? Sure, why not. I like the old 'frig idea, though...

Look at a used office furniture store
They will have steel cabinets that you can bolt a lock onto without much trouble and they will be fairly cheap

Thanks for all the great advice guys - I have a %$##^ load of ammo (buy it in bulk) so I don't want to have to bend over and look into a freezer or traditional style job box. Sounds like I should look at the used commercial furniture places or keep an eye on Craigslist - thanks guys!

Go buy a Sentry safe at Home Depot and build shelf's that fit your typical ammo cans.

They're only a few hundred bucks.

Phil. had the same problem. Found two metal locking file cabinets on Criag's List for $50 each. Reinforced the shelving, screwed it to the wall and filled it with many filled ammo cans of ammo.
It's not most secure method, but if they are pulling ATMs out of stores, what's secure? I'd rather replace my ammo stash than to replace the ammo and walls. Camoflauge the container and don't leave your garage door open for any longer than needed to discourage looky loos

I use a 6' tall X 36" wide Craftsman metal storage cabinet. It matches the other Craftsman tool cabinets in my garage and thus does not attract any unneeded attention. It's bolted to the wall, mostly in case of earthquakes.

I believe Stack-on has a model specifically for ammo storage that might fit your needs.

I use the large Stack-On gun locker.. not secure enough for guns, fine for ammo.. although it's getting sorta full.
