    DON'T DO IT!!

It is hard as hell to get hold of an decent AK these days. I have been trying to buy an Arsenal SGL both new and used since October... either they are out of stock or a Calgunner changes their mind during the sale.

I am finally going to get my hands on an AKM from Iron Clad Armory for $759!!! Wth. The days of getting one for under $400 are long gone.

Keep it bro. If you need an inexpensive patrol rifle for home, I suggest looking into the New Frontier Armory's Polymer AR complete lower receiver for about $169. If you need it for overseas, ... don't settle for something cheap.

Most of the time the dept has a list of approved rifles you can carry.

in a few months we won't be able to buy "AWs" anymore. I would keep it.

I think people are freaking out and giving too much credit to the politicians to implement another AWB. It won't happen.

Your likely engagemnt distances with a PR are well within the operationally effective zone of even the coursest AK on the market. Good HP ammo and that 7.62x39 is even more devastating.

Are you an armed guard? You don't specifically say you're a LEO just department. If this is the case I don't believe it is wise to get one. But if you're a LEO, or volunteer reserve, or patrol special officer they sell pretty basic ARs for cheap at gun shops. What about putting down some money with an FFL, and work out a trade for other things you have for one of their ARs. I've seen some as low as $600, I hope you can afford at least $600 if you really need a patrol rifle. What about looking at the CG classifieds, and searching for a used OEM rifle shipped to your FFL.

I need the patrol rifle but I love my AK more than anything. Convince me to keep it. What should I do?
                  A patrol rifle for what?

Why can't you patrol with the AK until you save up for an AR?

I don't want to get rid of it but I feel out gunned on patrol and its a handy thing to have. I'm going to attempt to figure out a way to get one but I just don't have the $2000 available to buy one. I'm going to talk to the wife about it and see if I can sell a kidney or put her on the corner for a little bit to pay for one (joking.....sorta). Thanks guys for all the input.

Most of the further discussion beyond the clear concise answer is usually people just trying to convince others that the Penal Code/Case Law doesn't really apply because their uncle's friend's cousin's son-in-law works as a gardener for a retired judge from another state who might or might not have said he doesn't think it applies to a certain case that has absolutely nothing to do with the question the OP asked.

So what would be better, A colt AR or a Daniel Defense patrol rifle package? They will both come out to about the same price.

A colt will hold its value better but you can't go wrong on either. Can you even find one right now with all the panic buying?

Yeah I can get one im just wondering which one. Daniel Defense will be easier to pay for and comes with an aimpoint

                                I would choose the DD.
