I'm provoking Saelee23, Who's the Bum? Any city in particular you want to shop? Any particular shooting sport you interested in?Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...
I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.
Tis better to have Trolled & lost, Than to never have Trolled, at all.

I concur with all of the above, though Irvington is a bit pricey but if you have the money or if you believe that you get what you pay for, then you'd have to catch them on a bad hair day to leave an unhappy camper.Always in trouble for daring to point out that the emperor has no clothes.Comment

It all depends
First, what part of the "Bay Area" Second what are you interested in?i'm looking for an good gun shop i can go to....i've had some bad service at a store ,but i wont mention the name (unless provoked further more). i need an place to would give me advice on products and things like that. i dont want "sales persons and or owner" that only talk to you when they're sure you'll buy what ever it is that your looking at, especially when its an difficult choice your trying to choose.
All the stores mentioned above are reputable business but all have a different business model. Irvington Arms is very helpful and is best known for there "Black Rifles". Metco#2 Is a "Kitchen Table" type dealer with little or no stock on hand but they do have low prices. City Arms is in Pacifica and does a good job. "Bullseye" in Marin County has a nice range and a decent stocked store.
Others you may want to consider are Reeds' in San Jose. Better stocked and a lot more of it then any place else but a bit on the high end of the price list.
A new dealer in Dublin "Dublin Guns and Knives" is well stocked on handguns but very little on long guns. I have found there prices to be very competitive on most items.
Dublin Guns, Irvington Arms, Bullseye in Marin are OLL friendly (Bullseye in Castro Valley is not OLL friendly)

We have been mentioned in this thread so I will follow up. Take a look at our vendor forum here on calguns and read the Bullseye Customer Service Model and Customer Review Threads and it will give you an idea of how we roll.
We take the time to answer any and all questions regardless of whether or not you have cash in hand.
If you want to give me a general idea of what you are looking for, I would be more than happy to set up a time to meet you at the shop so I can devote my full attention to your questions so we can find the right firearm for you.
If you havent figured it out already from reading this board, I am a bit of a loudmouth and I always enjoy talking about guns.

You've also got Contra Costa Collectibles (Walnut Creek), Krausewerk Collectibles (San Mateo), Tabor's Shooting Supply (San Bruno), High Bridge Arms (San Francisco), Imbert & Smithers (San Carlos), Roger's Relics (Santa Clara), Jackson Arms (South San Francisco) and Marin Firearms (Novato) in addition to the ones already mentioned.
We need to know more what you're looking for (old stuff, new stuff, rifles, shotguns, revolvers, semiautomatics, etc.) and your aim to purpose, each shop has it's own flavour and style and things they stock and/or are knowledgeable about.Comment

I'll vouch for Dan and all up at Bullseye in San Rafael, good guys, great shop, great range.
Also, City Arms in Pacifica. Good guys and a great shop, they'll talk your ears off if you like and have a wide selection of handgus, shotguns, rifles, OLL's and acccessories.Originally posted by Edward AbbeyA patriot must always be ready to defend his country against his government.Originally posted by W.H. Definitely would like to hear what ppl don't like about shops they don't recommend....especially Irvington. That's honestly the first negative recommendation I've seen about them.
As an information forum, I'd like to know what to avoid.sigpicComment

Been to Irvington Arms, City Arms, Tabor's, Jackson Arms and Imbret and Smithers. It really depends on which day you show up and how many customers they are servicing. Although no store should ignore any new customers, a repeat customer usually will get better service.
Irvington Arms has been really helpful each time I've walked in, they installed a U-15 stock on my OLL.
Tabor's - first time I was there was on a Saturday few months ago, 3 employees behind the counter by no one even said hello or 'Ill be with you when I'm done here'. All too busy chatting it up with customers/friends, drinking a fresh pot of coffee. I went last month on Wednesday, Frank Tabor came out and was very helpful.
Jackson Arms - helpful, since it's a range and cater to both new and experienced shooters.
City Arms - busy with other customers, waited for 15 minutes and left.
Imbret - very helpful, great selection of consigned guns. Saw a Walther TPH in .22 that very tempting gut at 500.Comment

Stay away from Imbert and Smithers in San Carlos...they rip shooters off. Huge thread before here about their "service".
Frank Tabor of Tabor's guns in San Bruno has always been nice to me and others. Make sure you talk to Frank as he is the owner. He helped me fix simple problems on my guns without charging me.
Targetmasters in Milipitas you should stay away from too. Bunch of knuckleheads working who talk a lot of smack when it comes to guns. Way overpriced but good to look and feel guns at. I had a transfer there and the kid behind the counter kept racking my H&Ks slide and slamming it home nonstop. I finally said knock it off before I hurt you since it is still my gun. We went elsewhere for the transfer. Dont trust them holding my guns for 10 days.
Reed's in San Jose is ok...great to look and feel guns at..but buy somewhere else as they are way overpriced.
Anyone that sells firearms at MSRP you should stay away from.Last edited by M5police; 03-04-2008, 6:26 PM.Comment

Just did another PPT at Tabor's this evening (my 3rd there), my experiences have always been nice and it's fun to talk to Frank - he's been around the block and then some (btw, he's a RO at Richmond and a Cowboy Action shooter, amongst everything else). I've been bringing my repeat business there and now am thinking of purchasing a new safe through him as well to support the shop, I like doing business with them. I will admit though when the stories start flying you have to speak up and interrupt to ask for service (or at least make eye contact and give the old eyebrow raise indication).
BTW, regarding the slide-racking -- Tabor's makes you have a nice lockable hard case and you lock your handgun in the case and take the keys with you, then it goes in his safe/vault in the back somewhere. There's no messin' around with your new toy, you're the only one with the key to it while in jail. He even carries $6 locks and hates the "new lock within 30 days" law as much as everyone else, so he tries to make it cheap if you have to buy one.Comment
