    Help! Saiga 12 g conversion

I am converting a saiga 12g I picked up from Turners. I already need a tool to release my magazine. Do I need to add a magazine lock after I convert it? Also, is there an easier magazine release I can install? Thanks in advance. I am posting picture of my current mag release. Not great pictures but hope they work.

I am not sure what I am seeing in the pics.

Take a look at the different AK mag locks on the market.

It looks like someone shortened or removed the factory release.

I would look into a traditional mag release and an AK style mag lock

In CA you must have fixed mags on shotguns. I also beleive you need a fixed stock if you use a pistol grip. See the AW flowchart to verify that your post conversion design will be compliant with CA law and 922r.
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

What happened to the mag latch that came on the gun originally?
Any semi auto shotgun with a detachable mag is illegal. You need to have a mag lock on that gun no matter the configuration.

The round piece of metal is the mag latch. I have to wedge a piece of plastic in between that and the magazine to release the magazine. Would that be sufficient? I think I might change it amd add a mag lock

The DOJ does not appear to be approving or reviewing designs to verify that the design meets the fixed mag requirement.

If Turners sold you the gun with that mag lock installed, I would keep the existing mag lock
              In place.

The locks for the AK platform are clunky vs the locks for the AR.

              What are your conversions plans?

semi auto shotguns need to have fixed "nonCollapsible" Stock. Fell free to correct me if I'm wrong.

CA's assault weapons laws for shotguns are different from those for rifles and for handguns.
What may be legal for one, may not be legal for another.

                    For a Saiga-12, a maglock is required.
In CA, the only way to legally not have one is to permanently modify the Saiga-12 so that it is no longer semi-auto. This can be done by removing the gas-piston and welding the gas ports closed, which will then make it into a straight pull "bolt-action" shotgun.

                    Pretty much.
It's not legal to have both a pistol grip and a folding/collapsing stock on a semi-auto shotgun.

                    Therefore...
If you want a folding/collapsing stock, it can not have pistol grip or a forward vertical pistol grip.
If you want a pistol grip, it can not have a folding/collapsing stock.

                    Penal Code 30515
                    (a) Notwithstanding Section 30510, "assault weapon" also means any of the following:
                    (6) A semiautomatic shotgun that has both of the following:
                    (A) A folding or telescoping stock.
                    (B) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon, thumbhole stock, or vertical handgrip.
                    (7) A semiautomatic shotgun that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine.
                    (8) Any shotgun with a revolving cylinder.

So even with a maglock i can not have both a pistol grip and an adjustable stock?
