    Transfer situation. Please help.

    Hey everybody,

My girlfriend's grandfather wants to give her a Colt Diamondback for Christmas this year. It is his gun and he is getting up there in age so he wants to make sure his guns go to the family that wants them.... My girlfriend wants this gun REALLY bad! The hang up is that he lives in AZ, and we live in CA... I know owning Off-roster guns is legal, but I don't think he can transport it here and do a FTF at a LGS... right? Would it need to go through his FFL to our FFL if such is even possible? Im a little lost on this one folks. Please educate me!!

Grandfather fits 'family' for intrafamilial transfer.

Intrafamilial is exempt from the Roster - the gun is OK.

Handguns from AZ resident -- > CA resident must use CA FFL. Perfectly legal for grandfather to bring the Colt to the CA FFL.

But, call ahead and find out if your LGS understands interstate intrafamilial transfer, and what the transfer fees would be, and if the LGS will accept the gun that way - some want out of state guns shipped from other FFLs.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!
