    Night Vision Optics

    Hey Gunners-

A buddy of mine recently contacted me to get a little advice on a night vision purchase for his mother. He is looking for either bi or mono, but doesn't intend to mount it or use it in conjunction with a firearm. I wasn't much help because my nv is pricey stuff. He is looking for something on the less expensive side, but he wants to make sure it's still a quality optic that will last her a long time.

If you guys have any links or names of optics to look into it would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks guys

Cabelas has a Night Owl 5x monocular for $200. I use one for hog hunting in the dark. It has a built in IR which reduces the distance of the night vision, but what is viewable, is extremely clear.

I can also use a flashlight in green or white while using the Night Owl that increases the night vision distance to over a hundred yards, most often, more.

One thing though, if you plan on using it for an extended length of time (hours) it does cause your eye to feel "strained". What I do to avoid that is switch from right eye to left and vice versa during the time of use.
You may not like guns, and choose not to own one. That is your right. You might not believe in God. That is your choice. However, if someone breaks into your home, the first two things you're going to do are, 1) Call someone with a gun, 2) Pray they get there in time.

I recently got this Armasight Prime - monocular type unit for my nephew from OP:

This is a great toy and it actually works quite well.. We tested it at about 100 yards and could see objects in some shaded areas which were not visible without this night vision. I think it's a good device for this price, you should check it out. They also sent me a free camo hat with it.. ha-ha

How much is he looking to spend? A price point would help.
