I knew someone would link the Sports Illustrated article... Not to defend him, but he was fast. That's undeniable. But he was good at two things, showmanship first, and shooting second.

      RIP

The guy had a bigger ego that just about anyone I've ever come across, but having said that, the guy could back it up for the most part. Dude had skills. To be honest, I'd find it hard for anyone not to have an ego like that if they had those kind of skills. He'll certainly be missed. RIP Bob.

        I don't think it's nice,...you laughing.
You see, my mule don't like people laughing.
He gets the crazy idea you're laughing at him.
Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to,
I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Have a chat with Dave Sevigny, Jerry Miculek, or Bob Vogel sometime. All three are are absolute monsters in their fields, but you won't hear any of them talking to reporters/spectators about what complete bad asses they are (especially Miculek, who owns a couple revolver world records in his own right).
My friends and family disavow all knowledge of my existence, let alone my opinions.

That being said, Sevigny, Miculek, and Vogel are pure competitors. When Munden was at his prime, quick draw was serious competition, but it's dropped out of the spotlight and is now more of an entertainment venue. To stay afloat in that kind of environment, Bob Munden had to be a good entertainer as well as a good shot.

A good entertainer will talk big and shoot to back it up. That's what sells tickets.

                    RIP. Faster than a rattlesnake.

RIP. Faster than a rattlesnake. His shooting at two balloons is outrageous. Thank-you 10000 fps HD cameras.

RIP Mr. Munden. He sure was full of himself, but he could back it up. Dizzy Dean once said - "It ain't braggin' if you can do it." Godspeed.

Sorry to hear that he passed. However I would not call him a legend. An Icon forsure. A legend would be John M. Browning.
