    GUN LOCK QUESTION

    So i got in to a heated discussion on sunday about LONG GUN carry if we have a long gun in our car does it have to have a gun lock on them or can u OPEN CARRY long guns thanks

    There was a recent ban on open carry of long guns. So they need to be in a fully enclosed container. They only need to be locked within 1000 feet of a school.

      I never take the chance, always lock them up.

        Now - long guns need not be locked, cased, or in your trunk, except going through Federal gun free school zones, and except registered 'assault weapons' (RAWs), all the time.

        In Jan 2013, the law changes to require a case (if it is a designed gun case) or a locked case (if the case is some other kind of case, e.g. a guitar bag) when OUTSIDE your car (ETA and in a place where it isn't legal to load and use it). Federal GFSZ law and RAW transport law remain the same.
