    Thumbhole Stock???

I'm determined to get my hands on a CX4 Storm 9mm but everyone keeps telling me that the thumbhole stock has to be modified (closed) as well the usual CA compliant items installed. But I just don't seem to understand why the stock has to be modified? (pic)

I was looking at the HK USC which I can get no problem out here but the Storm is practically impossible to find. The HK USC looks like a thumbhole stock to me and how come that's is legal for sale? (pic)

Thought a thumbhole stock was just that, a hole in the stock for a thumb. Sorry if I'm still a newb to all this but I've only been at this for 3 months now. Can someone just explain it better for me.
    Thanks

    HK USC

    Beretta CX4 Storm

Isn't this a true thumbhole stock?

The HK also has a thumb hole stock. The ones you find out here have a magazine lock, which is what you need to make the thumb hole good to go on the HK. Theoretically a magazine lock would also work on the CX4, but I'm not sure anybody makes one. Also, I think some models of the CX4 aren't long enough to meet California's overall length requirement, which cannot be overcome with a magazine lock, so you would also need to put in some stock spacers or weld on a barrel extension to meet the length requirement.

Think of it like this, even if it wasn't a thumbhole, it's still a pistol grip by definition (webbing of fingers can grasp below top of the trigger). So that particular bit doesn't really matter since it would be an AW anyway. Filling it would allow you to use it featureless though (no mag lock).

the atf classified them as thumbhole stocks for importation if you check the aug vs the usr you will see the slight tweak but the legislature got smart and closed that "loophole" so either bullet button them or fill the hole

A thumbhole can be any size hole. The only requirment is that the lower part of the pistol grip connects with the upper part. You need to have a fixed magazine holding 10 rounds inorder to avoid an AW with those stocks... Or a rimfire chamber.

Contact EBR Works in newbery park. They can get it done for you.

Oh, I did not know they did the work on the CX4. Do they fill the hole or lock the mag? Or do they let the customer choose? I'd be tempted to get one, but then I'd also have to get a PX4 to go with it

Likely a Mag Lock. Parallax Tactical sells them here in San Diego every now and then. They are perfectly fine for CA with the buttplate spacer and a mag lock. I'm actually buying one this week, then getting the mag conversion sleeve so I can use all my 92FS mags. Debating if I want to fill the hole so I can get a regular mag release and use my standard capacity mags.

I contacted EBR Works and I even have all items to make it CA legal but they said "no go" at this time. I purchased the Bullet Button from Goldenstatetactical, and extra buttstock spacer to add the needed length.

Thanks cfusionpm, I'm going to check with Parallax Tactical then.

And thanks for all the info, it makes sense now. Just found the flow chart too and following the little arrows helps a lot.

Jeff is the sales manager there and they have two in stock right now. He's holding one for me but the other is up for grabs as far as I know. You can email him at jeff@parallaxtactical.com and he can answer any other questions you have. Both are 9mm and use PX4 mags (comes with two). Tell him Matt referred you.
