Ever Submitted a Request for Firearms Record?

    Is it smart?

Depending on who I talk to it varies from, I'm putting myself on the radar somehow to others like me, who think its a good time to pull your records.

They sent me a letter saying I needed to include a picture ID copy. Duh- Said it right there in bold on the header.

It should represent all guns purchased as a California resident for which I am the owner.

But I purchased guns years ago before the flailEx began. Just cant remember when that line got crossed.

It's also good to see if some weapons I have sold in FTF transactions have been removed from my record. Considering its a government system, likely has screw-ups in its data base.

My friend did and it was not accurate. What a surprise there...

They are not always accurate and they can lead to investigations and/or visits from your friendly neighborhood DOJ.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

How? Why? Are there any specific reasons?

Yes, this is the form I submitted. I have heard a lot of rumbles that it leads them to dig into you further, but I have not met our chatted with anyone who experienced increased scrutiny.

                    Whatever, I'm not hiding anything.

I did a check on them and order there records. What a mess of a report, it looks like computer short hand and does not offer much information. Most important info is ser#, make, type, model, barrel length but no date of sale.

I got a 15 page printout and never heard from them again.

You have personal experience with this?

A close relative had one done and it was short, complete, and answered the question at hand.

                          FUD?
Well lets hypothetically say that when your AFS is run, something is on there that raises a red flag. Your AFS might then be handed off to the DOJ guys nearest to you. They would probably spend a little time checking you out, then contact you nicely and ask to stop by. You could ignorantly agree to let them come to your house or immediately contact a lawyer. Lawyer then straightens out the errors and acts as a "firewall" of sorts. It could happen that way Now I'm not saying don't run your AFS but do be prepared for what may transpire due to poor record keeping or errors in their database.

If something is wrong I would think that it would of came out during one of my many firearms purchases or my FFL 03 license or my background check with my government employment. In any event, I would rather get it cleared up now than have it come up at another time. A little too much paranoia going on. On the other hand, the IRS is out to screw me over.

                              PM sent.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.
