    Open land to shoot on?

Hey guys, I tried to search around and I have found nothing.

I am located in the Mountain view / Sunnyvale area and I would really like to find a place I can just drive out into and shoot that's around 20 minutes away. There is tons of open land no less than a 5 minute drive from me. Does anyone know where I can legally go and just post up my own targets and do some shooting?

I am just a few minutes from sunnyvale rod and gun and small drive form los altos rod and gun, but if I can find a nearby place outside the major population where I can just shoot on my own and not pay range fees I would probably just do that.

    Anybody got any ideas?

No where someplace like that around these parts. The closest will be Panoche or Tumey Hills south on 5, about 2 hours. It's BLM land.

Nope, Nothing like that inside the bay area, You need to drive 2+ hours away to get to BLM land.

So, Either pack far a day trip far away to BLM land, Or Pay a range fee and shoot slower.

I have wanted to try the BLM thing, but have not yet arranged the trip.....
Would really like to go camping at near a BLM spot next year sometime.

P.S. "all that open land......" don't even get me started as to why we can't have any dirt tracks in santa clara county. Usually have to go 2+ hours to go racing also.

Dang. This sucks... Seriously if you go to google maps and just look at mountain view. About a 5 minute drive south we has soooo much freaking open land and we cant do anything but look at it!

Heck even north and east of santa clara county. C'mon! We are completely surrounded by nothing. It's just bogus that I cant hop on 101 and drive straight over to the sierra vista open space preserve and pop some rounds.

Yeah, the dirt track thing sucks too. I do recall a dirt bike track off of some freeway near the northern outskirts of santa clara county. Maybe by Milpitas?

Could anyone give me the run down on the whole BLM thing?

I really really really hate that I'm going to do this, but I'm still going to. Have a look around the forums. This topic has been discussed many many times.

For south bay, Panoche Hills and Tumey Hills are pretty much the closest open space.
CalGuns Network (CGN) is different from CalGuns Foundation (CGF). Both need our support. I have gold name because I support CGN; plus, I send $10 every two weeks to CGF automatically via online BillPay as described here.
