I am going to have a 6.5 CM built and was wonder, are the bolt faces the same? I was thinking about buying a 308 then just switch the barrel with no altering the bolt. What say any gunsmiths out there.

Run the numbers and see for yourself....
6.5 Grendel: 123gr Amax (.510 BC) @ 2600 FPS
6.5 Creedmoor: 140 Amax (.585 BC) @ 2750FPS
In terms of just ballistic performance the 6 Creedmoor is better still... 115 DTACs (.585 BC) @ 2975 FPS. The 6 Creedmoor gives up some barrel life compared to the 6.5 Creedmoor but for competition or long range hunting use the 6 Creedmoor is an excellent round. The 6 Creedmoor also feeds and functions extremely well in AR-10 pattern rifles-- about 7.3 mils of drop to 1000Y out of a gas gun is nothing to sneeze at!
I have a pair of 6.5 Creedmoor rifles right now and really like them-- but when I shoot the barrels out I'll probably switch to 6 Creedmoor.Last edited by Kiba; 12-04-2012, 10:03 AM.Comment
