Please help a noob about air rifles.

I hope this is the right forum to ask.

I am a noob about modern air rifles. The last 'bb gun' that I bought was a Crosman revolver that used those little CO2 cartridges, back in the early 1980's at BEST.

Recently my friend asked me about some air rifle suggestions. I have no ideas, and I hope you folks can help with some answers.

My friend has a 15 acres land in the Northern California mountain. He wants to have an air rifle for general fun plinking in his land, and occasionally taking care some varmint problems around his chicken coop. He wants one that is quiet enough without bothering any neighbors (he tried his Ruger 10/22, which was surprisingly loud when echoing in the mountain.)

His budget is kind of open... hopefully in the few hundred dollars range, yet he doesn't mind to spending money on a quality air rifle that will last a life time with minimum maintenance.

Can you folks help suggest an air rifle for him? (and I hope to get to shoot it whenever I visit him )

    Many thanks,

Have your friend checkout Pyramid Air. In addition to a great selection, they'll have a guide to help with the decision making process.

              Thanks folks,

Wow, it is an eye opener! All these different calibers, action types, makes & models, different ones designed for different intended purposes, finishes & qualities, etc., etc.

Very different than when I was young(er) in the 80's, I just went to the only local BEST store, and bought the one and only one model displayed there.

And thanks for the Pyramydair's AirGun Guide, it is very helpful. It even got me interested that I might eventually add an air rifle to my collection as well. I think I will just show the Pyramydair Airgun Guide to my friend, and let him decide himself.

              Thanks again.
