Need help deciding between gloves for shooting.

I'm in the market for gloves to use while shooting and I hear good and some bad reviews for the following gloves that I'm interested in:

It doesn’t get much tougher than the Blackhawk Hellstorm Solag Gloves. The top of the gloves feature Kevlar accents that are flame, flash and cut-resistant. The molded knuckle offers additional protection while the goatskin palm repels water and offers superior grip. The palm is also coated with an Armourtan treatment, a process that encases the fibers in ceramic for a 25% increase in abrasion resistance compared to untreated leather. Not only are these gloves built to be extremely hard-wearing, they are also designed with an ergonomic cut and wrist adjustments to provide a perfect, comfortable fit.

Kick your hand protection up a notch with Oakley's SI Assault Gloves. These tougher-than-nails gloves are designed with key features that professional enforcers need in the field. A sleek and covert profile allows for better control of weapons and tools. Rugged micro-vented leather palm and fingers reduce heat build-up and encourage more natural hand movement with a snug next-to-skin feel. Mesh zones and rubber exhaust ports increase breathability while working to push sweat vapor out. Raised carbon fiber knuckle plating provides enhanced protection. Premium materials are combined to implement all-over flexibility through articulated construction. To complete the glove, a comfortable Airprene fabric cuff with a rubberized, textured hook and loop pull tab is utilized for easy-to-use quick on and off.

My main concern is that the bad reviews for both of these gloves say that they're not as durable as they're advertised. Which I find kind of odd since these are supposed to be "military grade". Can somebody clear this up for me?

    Thanks in advance!

I never recommend buying gloves without trying them on first. Everyone's hands are different, so what works for someone else may not work for you.

The most important factor is fit. It doesn't matter how durable a glove is if it doesn't fit. You may have a thin hand with long fingers. The reviewers may have fat hands with short fingers. That's why it's best to try them on before buying.

Shooting gloves should fit tightly for the best dexterity. You need to be able to feel what you're doing through the gloves. That's why shooting gloves typically use very thin leather - for feel and dexterity. But that thin leather also wears much quicker than thick leather. It's a catch 22.

If you've never shot with gloves before, I would recommend buying some inexpensive work gloves at Home Despot, Harbor Fright, Wally World, or Blowes. It shouldn't cost you more than $10 or $15. Make sure they fit snugly and the fingers are the right length. After shooting with them for awhile you'll begin to figure out what you like and don't like. After figuring out your preferences, you'll be able to choose a nice expensive pair of shooting gloves with a much better knowledge of what you're looking for in a glove.

    Good luck.

You may also want to drop into Big 5/K-Mart, etc and try on baseball/bicycle gloves

I use Nomex flight gloves, I learned about them from my brother who's a USAF pilot.

They're very comfortable, breathable, and tough but they also are thin enough that you can still feel through them easily. Plus they're cheep- less than $10 for no-name brands, and up to $40 for the expensive brands.

I have used a set of the cheap ones for a few years of paintball, and they're still in good condition.
