Yeah I read the article, apparently the girl's cousin (uncle? some family member) threw an iron at the guy and then he ran into the street where he got run over.

Could telling the authorities that he fired 'warning shots' get him into trouble? Wouldn't just be better to say he feared for his life and fired but missed?

Yeah I'm pretty sure that's a way to get yourself in trouble. You can't just go popping rounds off..
