I had one of my neighbors knock on my door about an hour ago telling me two african american guys were trying to break into my truck and when they were spotted they hopped the fence and took off. I wish we lived in a state where you can greet some thieves with the rack of a shotgun. Nothing says don't come back like the click clack of a scatter gun! But oh well, I guess I just have to hope they dont come back and break into my truck tonight because I know the cops will just tell me to stay in the house and wait for an officer to get here while my truck is getting looted. I called the cops to file a report and it only took them over an hour to get here.

last week, some punk(s) decided to slash both the driver side tire's of my GF's mother's car and both the passenger side tire's of my GF's car. I wish I could have caught them and spanked them silly.

I dont mean to derail this thread but what ever happened to the guy on the "u tube" clip that shot the thief. i remember hearing about it at work when it happened but what was the end result.

An hour to get somewhere a property crime was almost committed. You should be happy they showed up. I know it's frustrating to be a victim, but please understand that amid the myriad of in progress crimes and crimes against people, your particular situation doesn't rank high on the priority list. Not because it shouldn't, but because quite frankly, there are likely more important things going on elsewhere.

When I lived in Sac, I had two handguns stolen from my car after returning from a hunting trip (pre-sworn days), amid car stereo components, a camera, and a laptop. I parked my car in my driveway, went inside to take a piss, and came out to find my trunk and car looted...about 5 minutes total in broad daylight.

You think that the PD would come out for that? Nope, I had to file my OWN police report online through Sac PDs website. I was pissed, but I later learned that almost every unit working at the time was tied up on a double homicide a few miles away. The reality is, because of the infinite stupidity that exists in American neighborhoods throughout the country, local law enforcement is infinitely busy dealing with these issues.

The bottom line is nobody likes being a victim, but the police are not able to replicate forces whenever a specific crime occurs at any given time. We just try to make do with what we've got to work with. The end result of that is prioritizing crimes from most serious and deserving the quickest police response, to those that are less serious and can afford a greater response time.

This was a while back, what ever happend to him? I assume charges were filed but wasn't sure if this made it to court.

I had a neighbors car alarm go off at like 2 in the morning. When I walked outside I didn't see anything but a few minutes later a car with no light drove down my court until they saw me. I then walk over to my neighbors car and up close I could see that the window had been shattered. I called it in and they actually caught the car that had driven by. I was shocked at the fast response. They didn't get him on trying to steal the car because all I did was see him drive by but they did get him on a parole violation. I guess I must have scared his buddy of and when he didn't meet up with him the idiot came back to look for him. The sad thing was that my neighbor had heard the alarm, looked out and because it wasn't his or his wifes car in their driveway he went back to sleep until the cops woke him up. It turned out to be his sons car two doors down.

I think the case was submitted to the grand jury for possible indictment.

We both agree that cops are busy and need to prioritize. But....what can a person do to protect their property? AS THE SCUM ARE STEALING. Suck it up? Cringe? Call 911? Go outside and assist them, maybe offer some lemonade?

That's what I'm saying. I asked the LEO if my alarm goes off tonight, can I come out armed? ( I already knew the answer, just wanted him to humor me) and he said no. He said to stay in the house and call the police, or I can come out to be a witness. Yeah right! I'll come out there unarmed and hope the perps aren't armed. So in other words just be the victim and bend over and take it while you're waiting for them to arrive as your truck is being ransacked. He said the common thing being stolen out of cars right now are GPS' and IPODS people leave in their cars.

No law stops you from being armed on your own property. No law stops you from stopping thieves "in the act". The law does get specific on whether or not you can shoot the scum though.
