22/45 Optics Recommendations

So i'll be picking up my 22/45 in a little over a week and I'm wondering what optics to look for. I want something for fun since it's going to be a range toy/trainer.

Plans are to start out with just the sights and have fun with that but I know myself and I know that since it comes with a weaver rail i'll eventually want to put that on and mount something to it.

I'm also slowing bringing my girlfriend into the hobby so a nice 22 that's easy to shoot fits the bill on the front.

So if I could get some ideas of what you fine gentlemen and ladies would suggest that would be wonderful.

I'm still using a stock rear w/ HiViz fiberoptic up front on my 22/45. Seems like many folks on RFC like using the Bushnell TRS-25 for an inexpensive tube style and Burris Fastfire I/II w/ dovetail mount for a more "high end" open style. Unless you're totally dead set on getting an optic, these guns are super accurate with irons. BTW, if you haven't already, get a McFadden Machine Ultimate Clip Loader- your thumbs and ammo manufacturers will thank you

or

vortex razor red dot.

I ran a tasco accudot on my 22/45 for years, until it broke, and just put on the nikon 2 months ago.

Just picked up a vortex razor and will try it out soon to see if I like the tube style or holosight style more.

GF LOVES that gun with a dot sight.

Bushnell TRS-25 would be my choice I just installed one on my takedown and I like it

been watching videos of different optics on the mk III and kept seeing the mk II bushing mod and the accurizing kit.

plan right now is to shoot it as is (picked up 4 boxes of cci mini mags today) and go from there

I really like the look of the trs-25 and tasco accu dot

nikon monarch is a very nice looking sight and i do like nikon's quality

now that fast fire is catching my eye.. i like that style of optic for a plinker.

Only tune ups the gun needs... is a VQ sear.

Or you can get the VQ 'accurizing kit' which includes trigger, hammer, sear.

And... since its a mkIII, defeat the mag disconnect... so you can dry fire.

I didnt know enough before I upgraded my mkII 22/45, and bought the volquartzen full kit with trigger/hammer/sear.... when all you *really* need is the sear....

I'm pleased with it though. Trigger pull is NICE!!!!

I ran the tasco accudot for a number of years, and since it broke, I wouldnt buy a tasco again. Mine served me well for quite a few years though.

The TRS is well reviewed and inexpensive. I bought 2 nikon monarchs at the same time and mounted 1 on the 22/45.

The other nikon is waiting for my AR upper to arrive....

...But..... since I just picked up the vortex razor off a prize table.... I want to try it on the 22/45.... but if I like it, it goes on the AR 'house gun' that arrives next week. Otherwise, the 2nd nikon goes on the house AR...

That burris fastfire is similar design to the vortex- at a much cheaper price point.

Not many reviews out on the vortex yet since its still relatively new and rather pricey... They're apparently trying to compete with the Eotech- which is top of the line, and the Trijicon RMR.


-one thing to consider with red dots, is the warranty.

I got my moneys worth out of the accudot...
Nikon only has a 1 yr warranty on red dots... (though I'm confident its a quality product)
vortex has a lifetime warranty even on the red dots
eotech- I dunno
Burris- I dunno

Aimpoint, Eotech *should* never need warranty work... but I dunno what their warranties are.
