Quick Question On Identification For DROS?

So if your 18 and live with parents nothing is in your name that can be used as identification purposes name and address have to be the same as what u put on DROS. Gas bill, registration everything is in your mothers name. Your Address on your Drivers License is in your fathers address not your moms where you currently live and you wrote your current address in your DROS.

So what would you use? i went to apply for an ID since i now found a good reason to go, i went today and i pick up rifle in 9 days. If the ID don't get here in time what other things can i use that they will accept? I rounded up lots of papers with my name and current address like, background check from work, pay stubs, w2 forms that they sent me, credit card bill, and today they gave me a a receipt that shows i applied for my ID and now has my current address(i think this DMV receipt might be taken.) So from all these things what is usable or what would you do in my situation. Thanks

Move thread if i did not choose the correct one. Thanks.

So you have an CA ID/DL? Why would you apply for a new ID if you already have a Drivers License?

You're screwed either way, legally, I think. You shoulda just put your address from your DL on your DROS although legally it is supposed to be your current. You must live there part of the time, right?

I can't believe an FFL actually accepted a different addresses on your ID/DL and DROS. Seems like they've always compared mine. If you made it this far, then I think you should be ok. Usually at pick up time they look at the ID to make sure it's you, and check the reciept. I've never seen them go over the DROS at pick-up, although it's usually sitting there.

Next you will most likely not recieve your new ID in 9 days, it usually is a good two weeks. Maybe you'll get lucky.

I'm still curious about the whole DL/ID issue. Are you a legal resident of CA, or did your father live in another state? Is there some problem with your Driver License status?

Any document from a city, state, federal entity with yoru name and current address should be proof enough for address correction. Yes, you can use w-2's, income tax stuff from IRS, all sorts of stuff if you use your imagination. I had one guy come in with a court order to pay child support, its from the clerk of courts, so its acceptable. DMV mailed paperwork, as long as it has the dmv logo, and your current address, you are good too.

I have both a Ca ID and a Ca DL, it never hurts to have 2 forms of ID. I carry my ID where ever I am, and my DL stays in my vehicle for the most part.

          Haha.

I have both too. I was thinking there might be some cirumstances involving the license. Out of state, suspension, something.

If *I* went to the DMV to change my address, I wouldn't be putting in for a new ID, i'd be putting in for change of address on my new DL.

i dont know if there is a problem with using an out of town ffl but yeah you are supposed to use the cdl or cid's adress on dross.. you can just have a "lease agreement" written stating i blah blah rent from this time to this time paying this amount each month on this day for a total sum of this amount with late fees of this and so on and so forth signed by whoever you pay rent to (your mom or dad.. doesn't matter because you dont and they wont know) btw i'm only telling you this because it sounds like you legally reside there.. i wouldn't tell you to do anything illegal.. anyways that will work.. but i think the ID (cdl or cid) has to be the right one right away..

the doj has a lady check the cid/cdl with the paper work.. if the cid/cdl is invalid due to drivers record or what not she denies it IMMEDIATLY.. they dont go to backround check.. my ffl didn't alert me till i went in on pick up day of the denial.. i then started straightening it out.. they denied me the day i applied

This has not been my experience. First, I have never had anyone denied on the day of DROS ever. Never. Second, I have mispelled names, put the wrong addresses, wrong ethnicity, and a host of other things and those have never been rejected.

The only rejections I get are for expired DL, prohibited person, or more than oen handgun in 30 days. I have never seen a "wrong address" denial and I am pretty sure not everyone puts their current address.

I have a drivers license that i got 1 year ago when i was 17, this is when i lived with my dad(CA-SOCAL), when i turned 18 i moved with my mom (CA-SOCAL), same state same city. So now i bought my first rifle at 18 put my current address which is my moms place(if i would have put my dads address i would have avoided this) but i put my current address which is not on my Driver license, they said i had to bring something that proved i lived at that address (my current) which is my mothers place so thats why i went to apply for an Identification Card (CID) so that my mothers address could be in a legal ID so i wont have problems with the shop saying this paper cant be used and so on and so on. Theirs your answer Mr. Curios, LOL.

well, it did happen to me on the first day. mine was because i had an unpaid speeding ticket which caused my license to be invalid.. the lady told me for any dmv reasons or id issues concerning the id (that she sees concerning) she will deny immediatly (when she gets it, maybe she got mine that day, i was first in the store lol) and not even let it go to processing. its a policy they have to keep load off the backround checkers.. when SHE denies due to adress issues or cid/cdl issues it happens rather quickly with a DMV DENIAL response.. dunno too much about messed up ids but she talked about it shortly..

so have you confirmed with a dealer that a CA ID and DL will work as the two forms of ID for handgun sales?

when i purchased my guns i have used my CA ID and my vehicle registration with matching address on it. getting and using an ID and DL sounds alot more convenient to me, as i'm selling my car soon and am in no hurry to buy another.
