    Is it just me?

I was thinking I have lost my mind. I have a gun safe filled with dozens of guns. Yet most times when I purchase a gun, I turn around and spend what is sometimes hundreds of dollars on accessories and then rush down on the 10th (or 11th day) to pick up my new toy. Then I head home to mount all the newly purchased accessories.......then.....then the gun sits for weeks (sometimes longer) before I make it out to shoot it ......Have I lost it?

    There are cheaper hobbies.

    And more expensive obsessions.

No. You have found it. It's called obsession. Quite a few of us have this. It can be cured with lots of time and money.

If you are anything like me, as soon as it is purchased and waiting in jail, I'm already thinking about the next one....obsession for sure!

I collect coins too. Some of them sit for decades. They are worth 10x what I paid and I love them. No loss there.

When you sell them. Until then, they are a story.

You know it's a problem when you have rifles you have owned for years, but have never shot.

Sometimes I think about having a purge and getting the collection down to only those guns I use on a semi-regular basis. The bulk of my shooting is done with a small number of firearms; do I really need the others?

Try hookers and blow. That gets real expensive.

It's your money, your life, so do what you want to with it. If this makes you happy who's anyone to say that you have a problem? Now, I will say that I have a friend who has an entire room in his house dedicated to safes with guns and gun stuff inside of them all and....he doesn't shoot at all (too expensive he says, lol)! But, it's his money, his choice. So...have fun man!

Your only mistake is not taking it out immediately upon pick up!
                      Shoot first,
                      Accessorize second,
                      Shoot some more.

Nothing wrong with collecting. Doesn't have to be all utilitarian. Some guns I shoot a lot, some I don't, but I always appreciate a well made firearm. Not like a Vegas obsession where you lose your a**. Take care of good firearms and they're never worthless. Get in a pinch, can always sell them fairly quick, sometimes for more than you paid. Sometimes not, but hard to take a bath on a good gun.
At least i keep telling myself all this. But I commit no crimes, don't beat my wife, kid or dogs, provide a good home, don't abuse substances, gamble or cheat. Give me one.

I try not to obsess about anything anymore and live off an ellective budget. Can't believe the amount of money we have saved in a year. We'll have a enough to pay cash for a used truck and a second property (rental) sometime in 2013.

I'd prefer more wealth then nice, but unused guns. I do sort of live vicariously through the pictures that pop-up here. So by all means, keep buying and posting the eye candy!

It's almost as if you have a letdown as soon as you being your new toy home. It's happened to me also.

Here's a good parallel: make sure you are not going anywhere on a particular day. Have a friend take your vehicle over to their house for 24 hours. You will experience the same anxiety of not really needing something but, at the same time, not having it.

I'm sure there a psychological term for this.

Sounds exactly like what I do.... except it is always hundreds of dollars in accessories.
