    FFL FEES question

    Hi,

I have an FFL dealer I dealt once with the purchase of my 2 guns and he seemed fair. I was planning on visiting some local stores to buy some AR15 stripped lowers. What is the AVERAGE fees I should expect to pay, to complete the transaction and what exactly are those fees called?

    Thanks for your time
    Joe

I've recommended this get moved to general discussion. You will get better responses there. Dealers don't really like to discuss what other dealers do. Or we might all lie and say $100 is reasonable.

And there is also this. https://www.google.com/search?q=calg...w=1600&bih=839
www.tenpercentfirearms.com was open from 2005 until 2018. I now own Westside Arms.

      Thanks for the help.

I understand but anonynmity is key. I am just wondering what "fair" fees consist of.

      Thanks

I've paid from as little as $35.00 up to $50.00. I've heard of as much as $100.00. So it really depends on what you are comfortable paying for a service.
The thing with firearms is that they are not like any other consumer product, simple ownership of one carries a lot of responsibility.

If you're buying the guns from a dealer, you pay: gun + DROS ($25) + tax
            If you're doing a PPT; transfer fee ($10 max) + DROS ($25).
            If you're doing an FFL-FFL transfer; FFL transfer fee(varies, $35-$100) + tax + DROS

Should also keep in mind.. when doing PPT's, although the law says the dealer can only charge $10 max on top of the $25 DROS, some dealers knowingly break this law and should be reported to the DOJ.

                  From DOJ FAQ:

13.How much is the Dealer's Record of Sale (DROS) fee?
The State's DROS fee is $19.00 which covers the costs of the background checks and transfer registry. There is also a required $1.00 Firearms Safety Testing fee and a $5.00 Safety and Enforcement fee. If the transaction being processed is a dealer sale, consignment return, or return from pawn, the dealer may impose other charges as long as this amount is clearly shown as a "dealer fee" and not misrepresented as a state fee . In the event of a private party transfer, the firearms dealer may additionally charge a fee of $10 per firearm transferred.
I've bought a few guns from Barnwood Arms in Ripon lately and saw the extra $10 "DROS Dealer Fee" on the receipt so I looked it up.

So I just ran a Gun Genie search for a Glock G19 Gen 3 within 100 miles of me (not that I'm in the market for one, none of the guns I'm interested in were in stock ).
I have 76 results with OTD prices from $575.30 to $737.12 - it pays to shop around!
Dealer fees range from $0 to $59.95. I usually only look at the Total price.
1 at $0, The Rusty Knife in Arnold.
3 at $14.95, Metal Dog in San Jose, Gladwin in Merced, and JIC Ammo in Fresno.
Only 9 at $25, which I would have expected would be the majority - oops!
                  63 above $25.
These are only shops that use Davidson's, Barnwood doesn't show up for example, but it lets you get an idea of the dealer fees.

So if I have 3 long guns shipped from an online retailer to a private FFL what is the most I would have to pay?

I can guess the least you will pay for all three is $25 DROS + Sales Tax, but that's not likely since the dealer will want something for his time.

Because dealer fees are not limited, the most you will pay will vary by FFL. The dealer may want $100 (or more) per firearm. Call ahead. A $25 (or less) dealer fee is good.
