    PPT Question

I plan on buying a firearm through a Calgunner and I have a few question about the PPT process.

I am the buyer. If the seller and the buyer live in the same state (CA) but on different locations, does the seller simply mail the rifle to the buyer's FFL and call it a day? Or does the seller have to take the rifle to their own FFL and have their own FFL sent the rifle to the buyer's FFL?

I'm a little comfused in the process. This would be my first time going through a PPT.

How much more on top of the purchase price am I expected to pay???

Your seller just ships to ffl. Ppt ftf is $35 for buyer. If shipped the ffl can charge what they want. No sales tax on ppt. Ppt seller can ship to ffl does not need to ship from ffl. Some ffls won't accept shipment from ppt don't do business with them.

I just recently read dealers are supposed to start collecting sales tax charged on ppt transfers now too...it was here somewhere, somebody provided the statute...just a few days ago, so maybe that part has changed now

you (OP and #2) need to be a little cleaner with your terminology.

a PPT, as defined by state law, is a face-to-face transaction between two california residents. the FFL, who books the transaction and holds the firearm for 10 days, may not charge more than $35 for this service.

if the transaction is not conducted in person -- which appears to be the case here -- then the seller is free to ship directly to the buyer's FFL. (others with more knowledge about the subject might explain the various shipping methods, but that's really the seller's problem.) the FFL, who again books the transaction and holds the firearm, can charge essentially any price for this service, but reading calguns threads on the topic leads one to believe the cost generally totals somewhere between $70 and $120 or so. you can shop around for a good price in your area, or maybe just ask for some guidance here.

talk to your receiving FFL in advance. make sure they know what is coming and when, verify that they're OK handling exactly what's being sent, and find out how much you'll be paying.
