    why 80%'s???

Aside from the whole "i built this" aspect, why go the 80% lower route?? if long guns aren't registered, what does it matter? I can't see it being cheaper than a stripped lower when you factor in the tools necessary

on that note...if stripped lowers aren't DROS'd as long guns, will they be affected by the long gun registration bill??? (i'm sure it's been discussed, but apparently none of the donated $$$ to calguns goes to the search button)

Most civilization is based on cowardice. It's so easy to civilize by teaching cowardice. You water down the standards which would lead to bravery. You restrain the will. You regulate the appetites. You fence in the horizons. You make a law for every movement. You deny the existence of chaos. You teach even the children to breathe slowly. You tame.

I think one reason is that you can build an AR pistol, correct ?

some people just like th "I built it" aspect.
others like that there is no paper on the receiver. Even though long guns are not currently "registered" there is still a paper trail to the first buyer
others like to build AR pistols, and acquiring a 100% pistol-papered lower can be difficult.

No, they won't be affected by the long gun registration bill, just as they are currently not affected by the handgun registration bill.

All guns transferred thru or bought from an FFL have been Federally registered since 1969. ATF has been optically scanning old Form 4473s from dealers who go out of business into a searchable computer database since the late 1970s, in direct violation of the 1986 FOPA. The 1998 NICS update to Brady gives the ATF all the info needed at the point of sale. Some people don't want their guns registered. Gun registration always leads to gun confiscation.

Personally, I don't think that's a prime reason for 80% lowers. A lot of the build parties involve pushing 2 buttons so that the CNC machine can mill out the lower. So technically, "I didn't build it, something else made it happen."

Why'd I do it? Just to see what the fuss was about... no paperwork... easiest/cheapest way to a pistol lower.

                              "...[C]ivilian soldier fantasy..."

Really? Is that what you really think, IrishPirate? Do you really think that the mature, adult Americans who discuss these things rationally fantasize about that? I'm just asking for a clarification. Perhaps you didn't mean it that way. It is not a fantasy, but a grave responsibility. And because most Americans have failed to take it seriously, we have all failed to hold our government and institutions accountable and have let them go mad with too much power. It is disgraceful, shameful, and every competent American should be ashamed that it has come to this point.

Here is what Churchill said about a similar circumstance:

If you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a small chance of survival. There may even be a worse case: you may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.
