Opportunity to make another pro gun owner

My neighbors window was smashed last night during halloween, he said he knows who.

He said because someone asked for candy, be he didnt have any.

He is now worried and asked me about getting a gun. He has a clean history.

I have the opportunity of simply handing one of my Mosin Nagants to him for free.

    Should I do it?

If it was just for candy I highly doubt the dude will be back. Not to mention I can't see protecting property a smart thing to do with a rifle

I would say no, just because I would never let anyone borrow one of my rifles. But thats just me.

        It wouldn't be borrowing.

But **** yeah dude do it. Take him shooting first then give it to him. Safety is always first.

Not borrowing. Giving it to him for free. Mosins are cash and carry for now right?

If he were to get a gun himself, he would think about it long and hard, then eventually say no and forget about it.

                NO.

Security is an individual concern. So is being proficient with a firearm. Unlike a cell phone , you can't just pick up any firearm and assume after a practice session you'll be an expert enough shot with it under stress.

As such if the OP's neighbor cares enough about their security they'll seek out the knowledge and equipment necessary to secure their home. You can't do it for them no matter how compassionate you are.

The more subsidies you have, the less self reliant people will be.
