I feel your pain. I ordered 1,000 .45ACP bullets from Precision Delta and when I received the box i was missing close to a hundred rounds with the box torn open and the bag inside ripped. I never got around to filing with USPS but its to late now.. Poor shipping and packaging combined. What are you missing if you dont mind me asking?

Ten years ago, I paid a significant amount of money for an auction catalog to be sent to me from England. When it arrived, it was in destroyed packaging inside a USPS "Your item got damaged in transport" plastic bag.

This was a 150-page catalog with thick pages of better quality than a high-end magazine shipped in a nice padded envelope. It was soaking wet, with the pages soaked all the way to the center of the publication. This thing didn't just get wet, it had to be immersed in water for 30-60 minutes to reach this level of saturation.

It wasn't insured, but I felt that USPS should take responsibility because this wasn't an accident. It was obvious incompetence and abuse to my package.

Of course, the local postmaster told me to pound sand. If it wasn't insured, they aren't responsible. I pointed out that this means they could set fire to my package, and they aren't responsible unless I paid for insurance. Asked him how this policy was any different than a government-sponsored protection racket. He wasn't amused.
My friends and family disavow all knowledge of my existence, let alone my opinions.

The mailman once lost a Mastercard payment. Cost me 10 points in my credit rating. They would do nothing.

Most package failures are due to poor packaging, not the USPS. Shippers need to use extra care when packing stuff. I always pack stuff I ship assuming the USPS will be throwing the box around quite a bit.

I had stuff lost both by USPS and UPS/Fedex. However I ship a lot through USPS so it's not too bad I guess. Good packaging is important.

Nice of the shipper to cover the loss. I know some people who work for the USPS and they tell me soon after the election the USPS "quality" of service will get a lot worse and a lot slower. The USPS is drowning in red ink.

its not a business. Its a service. "Red ink" is like saying CA recycling is "making tons of money on the CRVs!"

Much of their woes comes from a 2006 requirement to pre fund their retiree's benefits for the next 75 years and were given 10 years to accomplish it. They have also been hurt by the recession like a number of businesses.

Your right and I get what your saying. The point is USPS is going to need a major bailout soon but congress won't touch it until after the election as well a lots of other stuff they've been kicking down the road.

I dealt with this a few months ago. I sold some AR parts to another Calgunner and shipped USPS with delivery confirmation (no insurance).

The buyer got the package, which was left at his door opened and taped back up with the most valuable stuff missing, cheaper stuff left inside. No endorsements of damage or anything, just left at his door pilfered.

No insurance? F.U. Kick Rocks sucker. I had to refund the buyer his money and some USPS employee got some free AR build parts. I like to visualize dude at the range, shooting and laughing about how he got over on that fool who got his parts jacked.

USPS, FedEx, or UPS, pay a couple of extra bucks for insurance.

There's a time to go cheap, and a time to pay for services.

Packages get tossed around and many of the systems are automated. If a package gets torn open midway on a processing belt, and doesn't get discovered until the end of the belt, that's where it will get taped back up. There's going to be a pile of parts along the way that they will have no idea where they belong. This is more common than actual theft, which does happen from time to time
