So I'm in the market for a nice gun and Ive narrowed it down to 3 choices. The first is a walther p22 from my cousin(has 2 mags, 2 holsters). Second is a 1943 IZZY mosin 91/30(been modified a lot). Third is a universal m1 carbine with an aftermarket sporter stock(which i don't like). Which of the three do you guys recommend because Im quite stumped on which one to choose. Thanks a bunch.

which gun to choose?

its easy ......all 3sigpicMost of the further discussion beyond the clear concise answer is usually people just trying to convince others that the Penal Code/Case Law doesn't really apply because their uncle's friend's cousin's son-in-law works as a gardener for a retired judge from another state who might or might not have said he doesn't think it applies to a certain case that has absolutely nothing to do with the question the OP asked.Comment

Ive only got the $$$ for one. Other wise, this post wouldn't be here.

Well, the p22 will run me about $250, m1 is $300, mosin is $200.Comment

91/30 or p22...
All depending on how often you'll be able to shoot it.. If your closest rifle range is farther than 25 min to p22Comment

So actually there are TWO nice guns...
Is there a range where you can shoot milsurp x54R? Or is $14-ish/20 for non magnetice ammo cool? Mosin wouldn't be much use if you can't shoot it though a Mosin & a spam can of ammo are always good to have stashed.
Also what's your present inventory look like? To me that would be the big decider.
Except for staying far away from the Universal...

The range I go to you can shoot just about anything but its an indoor range. Currently I have a 91/30, colt agent .38, mossberg 500 12g, remington speedmaster 22, Iver johnson 32 top break, and a raven .25. I was thinking if I got another mosin, it would be my more tactical sniper instead of tactical. So actually there are TWO nice guns...

Strictly my own preference but I'd be looking at a centerfire semiauto. SKS are cheap, ARs are not.The range I go to you can shoot just about anything but its an indoor range. Of the three listed I would opt for the .22 pistol. Ya really should have one of those. If the Mosin has a scope already mounted & GTG it sure would be tempting. I have a '42 Izhvesk & when I look at it...Last edited by Fishslayer; 10-20-2012, 10:47 PM."He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.

If forced to pick one of the three, I would go with the Walther P-22.
Otherwise, I would pass on all three.
$300 is about right for a used non-C&R commerical/aftermarket M-1 Carbine.
Surplus USGI M-1 Carbine are in the $500+ range, but have less problems than the commerical ones.
$200 is too much for a Mosin-Nagant M91/30.
You still can get them (non-bubba'd) in the $100-150 range.sigpic

1943 Issy heavy modified Mosin Nagant 91/30 isnt a C&R...depending on what the modifications are, its not unheard of for them to sell for $200. ATI stock, Bent bolt, Scope Rail. with or without Scope would be my question.
The P22 sounds good...
The M1 sounds like an Assault Weapon...so it will need a magazine lock and the whole rifle must be at least 30" long in the shortest stock position (and fire).Comment

I personally would go for the mosin...i have a tula 1939 91/30 all matching, and no forced matches, and i absolutely love it. Its big and heavy but it cycles smooth as glass....plus the ammo i use at the range is cheap as dirtLast edited by CinnamonBear723; 02-27-2013, 9:16 AM.Comment
