    FFL refuses to release pistol

Hey guys, I went in to pick up a pistol this afternoon and was informed that the owner of the place was on vacation and will not return until the end of the month. The problem is, the person behind the counter stated that no one would be able to release guns ("nobody can get into the safe") until his return.

It should be stated that this establishment is a combination glass/windows showroom and FFL. I do not want my 10 day wait to turn into a 20 day wait. Do I have any leverage to compel them to release my gun to me? Is a refund my only recourse?

    Thanks,
    Steve

Just wait it out and be glad the guy hasn't died. Yep, it sucks but there are worst things that could happen.

Tell them to compensate you for the gas since you have to come back twice to pick up your gun.

The FFL should have informed you. His inconsiderateness has already cost you extra time and money. I would not be so worried about the extra wait. I would be worried about having to ever do business with the FFL again. Now, if it was a family/medical emergency instead of a fun vacation, I'll retract my statement.

Comments by the person in the shop indicates that this was a planned trip. Luckily, it isn't too far from home, but the situation is inconvenient as hell.

Surely this was mentioned when you started the process.

Hehe, would that it were, sir, would that it were. . .

After some time and a couple of beers, I am going to wait this one out. Mostly because I was very happy with the deal I was able to get. I will, however, let him know that this will be the last bit of business that I will be conducting in his shop.

Why can't someone from the shop call him for the safe combination, if that's the only issue? If it's a key lock, then he can fed-ex the key. Is he the only FFL, and the issue is he has to be the one to release the gun to you?

Maybe a free box of ammo will make you happy.

Do they serve alcohol in this establishment? Just a guess...

I'm from Sonora, and yeah they do things a little different up there. It's almost like they run on a different calendar and just expect everyone to know that you have to wait for stuff. You mentioned it was a good deal, some things are worth waiting for

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.
