is there any big site for gun Serial# decoding?

they got them for auto VIN#

IIRC auto VIN# are Govt supervised, but gun serial# are pretty up to maker

(wow, an argument for govt regulation)

Any listing of ANY info on gun #s, at least for bigger makers?

This would be mostly for when makers have 'quality issues' that then get fixed, or vice versa.

Not as far as I know. Narrow it down a bit by manufacturer.

No, it's not an argument for government regulation.

Contact the manufacturer and see if they can provide any information for you.

There is a website for Taurus S/N. The S&W Forum has some info posted. Somebody will usually post an answer if you ask, giving model # & a partial S/N.

I wanna ask, "which Marlins were made with QC problems when shop moved?

And which #s are now safe to buy?

At what # did they start making good guns again?

I get a funny feeling they wont be too forth coming.

The few serial number sites that I've found were type-specific, none general....some cover multiple brands.
