Flying into Newark, NJ with a Firearm

So I'm going on a trip and wanted to bring my Mosin with me. I will be flying into Newark, NJ and continuing on my trip to free states. Does anyone have a any experience doing this?

I looked up Port Authority NY/NJ

and they provide a link to NJ State Police
You could visit New Jersey over a thousand times and still miss out on amazing places to see and thrilling things to do.

According to all of the above, I shouldn't have any problems. However I would really hate to get arrested, detained, or otherwise deprived of my freedoms. I read somewhere that despite all of that, individuals were still wrongfuly arrested on occasions. So again, has anyone had any experience flying into NJ?

    Thanks!

IMO: Don't do it! Not worth it. NJ is much worse than CA.

Definitely do not bring hollow point, for ANY reason.

I have to agree with this. There are times to fight and times to not. This one is a not.

In this case I would see if you can ship the mosin somewhere. I have to go the NY and NJ later this year for work. I always fly with my gun. But for that trip, where I will need it most, I won't have it.

No experience flying into New Jersey, and thanks to Revell vs Port Authority of New Jersey I'm not giving them the pleasure.

In summary, plaintiff George Revell was flying from PA to a legal destination with a checked handgun. His plane had mechanical issues and emergency landed in Newark NJ. The airline's earliest flight out was the next morning, so they paid for his hotel stay overnight and he took delivery of his checked handgun. The next morning he arrives to continue his flight and is arrested by NJPA at the counter for illegal firearm possession without a local permit. Note out of state residents CANNOT get a New Jersey Firearm Owners ID card, so the moment Revell landed he was in violation of NJ law.

The judge ruled in the following wrongful arrest suit that Revell should have known the local laws and surrendered his property to police or the airline in light of the legalities of NJ's law. The judge ruled the FOPA didn't apply because the weapon entered Revell's control during the overnight hotel stay.

His isn't the only case on file either. Even Mas Ayoob's been jammed up going through NJ airports for pistol competitions, and even with his badge the NJ cop ran Ayoob's guns through a serial number check knowing he had a plane to catch.

Essentially, flying into NJ airports with guns is akin to gambling IMO.

I know your talking about NJ. I just recently flew with a firearm from CA to FL and had no problems. I read the airlines rules followed them to a T. When I approached the counter I said confidently "I have items to declare and I will need to fill out an ORANGE card" She replied oh, please step to the far counter. Filled out the card, and then showed her the locked case. I was then directed to wait at the other far end of the counter in case TSA needed to inspect the locked case, which I held the keys to.

              Not one problem...

On the bright side, with its excellent gun laws New Jersey is well known to be crime free and perfectly safe.
