picking your own birth date as the combo is pretty common, same with an address. Better options if your a history buff, are dates in history.

P.S. I've opened 4 different safes using the persons birthday. They knew i was opening their safe of course, i just told them to let me try before they gave me the combination.

that happened to me one night when i heard a noise outside and went to grab my gun to investigate. Couldnt open it and started getting worried so i had to dash down the hallway to where another gun is in my house.

nothing was outside but i sat there very upset at myself that the situation could have been super ****ty if someone WAS in myhopuse or outside and i couldnt get to my other weapon.

Now everynight like ritual i set the alarm clock, unlock the safe, and make sure my surefire has good batteries. i take my wallet out and put it in the safe to ensure i wont leave the house without remembering to lock it. everymorning i turn the alarm off, take a shower, get dressed, put my surefire in the safe (so the kids wont find it and lose it), grab my wallet and lock the safe.

Buddy says he writes the 3 numbers for his safe on top of the door frame (sill?) in the room he has his safe in. 1st on left, 2nd in middle, and 3rd on right. Need a ladder to see it, but at least it's there in case he forgets.

Have another buddy who keeps the dial a few numbers off from the last one...quick access but riskier burglary-wise. I think he spins it if he goes out of town.

Me, I put the combo card in the safe when I first got it. doh Took me a while to open it, now the card is stored elsewhere.
