Boy Shoots Sister Over Bag of Potato Chips

(Dillon County) - Dillon County deputies say an argument between a brother and a sister over a bag of potato chips led to a shooting.

WBTW-TV reports that the incident happened Tuesday night. According to deputies, a 10-year-old boy shot his nine-year-old sister in the face with a shotgun.

Investigators say the two were arguing over the chips. Authorities say at some point, the boy left the room, got a shotgun out of his father's room, and shot the girl in the face.

The gunfire hit the girl on the right cheek.

The children reportedly ran to get help from their grandmother. The girl was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay; however, she will need plastic surgery.

Investigators are said to be considering charges in family court of assault and battery with intent to kill.

By "Moron" I assume you are referring to the father of the children.

There is always a reason to teach children about gun safety. I dont worry so much about my son and my guns as I do when he visits friends that are not as responsible. The best conversation I ever had with a childs mother regarding where my guns were and how are they stored. She saw the safes and fire files all locked up and was OK with having her kid spend time with mine. We need more responsible gun owners and more child education. There will always be guns.

I worry about the childrens mental state after this. It destroys families to be ignorant about safety.

I bet the chips were Cheetos.

You're only getting my Cheetos when you pry them from my cold dead hands.

The weapons should of been locked up. Where was the father/mother when this happen. I assume the parents never taught the kids about safety. I am teaching my kids early about safety when it come to my guns/rifles. I am glad the girl will be okay.

What are parents teaching their kids?

                    Give me the chips!

                    No!

Okay, BANG! Shotgun to the face.

Slowly but surely, degenerating into a country of idiots. Sometimes I feel like we are living in Idiocracy, the movie.

It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives. Only a small 'inside' group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few, at the expense of the very many. Out of war a few people make huge fortunes."

The blame for this falls totally on the father, it was his shotgun he is responsible to have it in a safe condition AWAY from the kids.

Parents are not keeping their guns out of reach or not educating them on the safety and use of firearms?

I think there is a whole range of family issues going on if the kid thought that the solution to his problem was to shoot his sister over a bag of chips.
