defense distributed is not news. this, however, IS news:

In a letter to Wilson dated Sept. 26, the legal counsel for Stratasys Inc. informed Wilson that it was cancelling his lease of the company’s uPrint SE printer. “It is the policy of Stratasys not to knowingly allow its printers to be used for illegal purposes,” the company wrote, noting that Wilson lacked a federal license for manufacturing firearms.

Wilson has maintained that he doesn’t need a license, because he’s not planning to sell the weapon. But Stratasys was not impressed. Wired's Danger Room blog reports that the company’s representatives showed up at his door to seize the device. Now he’ll have to find another printer—and according to Danger Room, he’s considering obtaining a manufacturing license even though he doesn’t believe it’s legally required.

You know where Wilson screwed up right? First thing he should have made when the printer showed up was MORE PRINTERS!

Unsure how they are citing the 1988 Undetectable firearms act, how does the Carbon15 get around that?

Also, unsure why the ATF is investigating when this is no different than any other homebuild.

IDK exactly what that law say, but there is still lots of metal: barrel, bolt, carrier, etc.

I read it, where does it say the ATF is investigating?

Just for information, the ATF itself says:

You can sell it, after time, as a used item, and not in quantity -- and at that time it has to have the maker's name and city and some kind of serial number engraved on it.

Individuals manufacturing sporting-type firearms for their own use need not hold Federal Firearms Licenses (FFLs). However, we suggest that the manufacturer at least identify the firearm with a serial number as a safeguard in the event that the firearm is lost or stolen. Also, the firearm should be identified as required in 27 CFR 478.92 if it is sold or otherwise lawfully transferred in the future.

All of this suggests to me that the kid has grounds for a breach of contract suit -- there is absolutely no Federal restriction on making your own gun, making your own AR lower, or making plastic ("undetectable") lowers (like PlumCrazy and others already do)... and what do they suppose the ferrous trigger group, bolt, and barrel will do as far as undetectability goes?)

Devil's in the fine print of the lease.

Some leases may have 'general pullback provisions'.

Hell, go look at your mortgage fine print - your bank may be able to pull your mortgage anytime they want (minor handwaving for convenience issues) if compensating you for equity. In fact, those folks with Countrywide Mortgages had many mortgages held by Countrywide Foreclosure Services.
