    HK's owners.. Pls. chime in

    Good morning CG's,

It's a beautiful sunny day, I'm in a market for a new/pre-owned toy. Hopefully an HK's USPc .40 or 9....it will be for range/practice only.

What are the pros/cons? For sure full size would be best for my range/practice purpose but I do like the way compact's feels in the hand. Same story with 1911's, I do much better with Commander's than full size.

Thanks in advance for your valuable times & opinions!

    Have a great day!

Best way is to visit LGS that has USPs so you can hold it in your hand. USP is good pistol. Choice of a firearm is very personal thing and you spend your hard earned money any way you want, HK is well established brand as Colt, SIG, Glock... Thanks

HKPRO.com also a good place to get advise on all things HK. I collect HK so I'm bies.

I just sold my HK USP in .40 it was the FS. That is a fantastic gun. I only sold it because I shoot a lot and 9mm is cheaper to shoot. I have the .45 as well and plan to keep it. The .40 is a great round just cost more for me to shoot a lot. If it had been the 9mm I would still have it. I also like the midsize in different models. I shoot them better when I am shooting fast. I just see the sights quicker. I have a G19 and it is fast and fun to shoot. That said I shot the FS USP very accurately and it was easy to aquire the sights.

Thanks, gents! Yes, it does cost more to shoot .40, hence 9mm is my other option.

I've handle both at LGS, they feel more substancial & solid, maybe a bit heavier than others Polymer.
        IMHO!

Anyway, I will try both at the range soon and decided which way to go. Thanks, again.

I have a USP 9mm fullsize and 9mm compact, and have tried my friend's USP 40 full size.

The fullsize 9mm with the dampening spring, makes it feel like I am shooting a 0.22. Although I like ergonomics of the Sig226 better, I hate to admit it, but my HK groupings are tighter. The fullsize HK feels like a brick, but unlike the Glock, has a better grip angle. I am a Sig226 fan, but I will not sell my HK full size.

When I tried my friend's full size 40, the problem I have with it, it does not tame the snappy recoil of the 0.40, like the way the Sig does. I just did not like the way handled. It took me longer to get back on my sights compared to a Sig 226 in 0.40.

I really like my compact, especially if I lived in a CCW/LTC state. But I don't. So I am more accurate with my full size vs my compact. I like my compact, because it feels slightly less like a brick in my hand, and if I needed a compact option, this would be it. If I could do it over again, I think I would have gotten the P2000 instead, because I would get the adjustable backstrap option.

I would never use my compact in a locked and cock situation, which to me is the only reason why I would buy the compact over the P2000.

            Sorry bit of rambling....

My LGS's had a P2000 pre-owned for sale also, but price is a bit higher than USPc. You're correct, adjustable B/S is very cool. I'd liked it alot.

                Hk

I had a Uspc 9mm, which I sold after I bought a p30. I personally liked the p30 better. You may benefit from the p30's adjustable back and side straps.
The ergonomics of the p30 are a lot better than that of the usp series.
I'd recommend both, but if you want to avoid the brickiness of the usp, then go with a p30.

Personally, I'd go full-size in either caliber. I've had my USP .40 for almost 20 years since they first came out and it's been a flawless performer.

I'm a lefty, and the ambi slide release would be another compelling reason to get the P2000

If you don't mind an old heavy pistol in 9mm see if you can pick up a P7 through P.P.T. out of the market place.

I got a sweet deal on mine during a trade with a fellow Calgunner. Only complaint is the mushy takeup on the trigger before it breaks, but it makes up for it with that stainless slide

In the last few years, I find myself addicted to HK pistols---I've had a full-size 9mm USP ever since they came out (1994) and its become a bedside/range gun---if I'm packin' one, I go with the smaller USPc and the slick little P2000---both in 9mm. Ihen they came out with the P30...

I started gun ownership with a USP Fullsize 9mm. It was my favorite gun even after shooting Sigs, Berettas, and Glocks. I say "was" because then I got an HK45c for my carry permit...and now its my favorite gun. Like others mentioned, its a preference thing...get out a shoot one (rent from a range or hookup with someone willing to meet you and shoot one).

Good luck...you won't be disappointed if you go that route.

Some people say they feel like bricks to hold, and I'll admit they aren't the most ergonomic pistol out there, but they are really good guns, and I don't mind the feel at all.
There are also the P2000s out there, that are California approved, that feel nicer too.
