No. If its in a locked container, it can be sitting your lap, in your hands, on the dash, anywhere.

If a BP/LEO knows there are firearms in the vehicle, is that enough PC for them to check over the firearms?

The feds dont care about CA gun laws. Only state or local LEOs can check if your handguns are locked up and unloaded. long guns just too see its unloaded. They cant run your serial numbers on the guns unless youve broken a law

And why would lawfully owning a firearm be PC for a search?

They've seen it all as far as folks coming back from that range by now.

I've also heard that it is illegal to lie to a federal leo is that true as well?

In my experience BP doesn't care about your guns so don't worry.

In CA, yes, they can perform an eCheck.

If you like the range, join immediately. it's about 75 dollars to join, 20 to shoot once. pays for itself quickly, plus, it's a great range!

Exactly. This place might be in the middle of nowhere, but $75 to shoot any day of the year is a killer deal. Comparatively, American Shooting Center charges $350 for a year long membership, although the convenience of going to 'American is very tempting.

Well I didn't get to test the BP today because I ran out of time, so I went to ASC instead. I plan to go to SB next week, and I'll probably buy a membership also. Then again, I can't find any goddamn 5.56 ammo anywhere so maybe I won't go...

Seriously guys, thanks for all of your input-my guns's and I would be lost without y'all...

One of my favorite desert shooting places is along the southern end of S2, at the BP check point there they can actually hear us shooting. One trip (we had an a**load of stuff with us) it went like this:

                    BP-where are you going
                    Me-back to camp
                    BP-where have you been
Me-I think you guys heard us over there (pointing)
BP-(slight smile) have a nice day

Here's an account of one of my experiences with the Border Patrol coming back from SBR&GC.

Last time I went through that checkpoint all my guns were on the back seat in cases.
He looked in and said, "Have a nice day."
                        I don't see the problem.
They've always been courteous to me.
