I think they were intended more for illuminating/locating the target, but we sure tried like he** to shoot em.
Not sure what you mean by "illum scopes", but we were using iron sights out to about 50 yards since these are visible to the naked eye. You could use any scope to see them at longer ranges to help locate a target. Now, they do make special ones that are only visible with night vision goggles, but I don't think that's what you're looking for.
